Hey guys!

I know spam is annoying and seems to be hitting hard lately. So I wanted to give you the most information possible so you understand what and how spam can hit the boards....and most importantly how you can help. The most important thing being: If you find spam on the board please report the post and ignore and I will take care of it!

Now I am going to give you guys a little course of spam on webboards...Spam 101!

1) Most spam is NOT a human. Most spam is a computer sending out information. So there is no point in messaging that username or posting a response - since no one will get the 411. Although we take steps to stop it..as of now there is no way of stopping all spam. 99.9% of the spam that hits the board you will never see, but unfortunately we can't block it all. That is unless of course we go to every post being approved before it hits the board (my guess is you guys would not like that. smile.gif )

2) Simply seeing a spam post nor getting a spam PM will not do anything to your computer. You would have to click on a link they give you for anything to happen to your computer. So what is the number 1 rule of spam --IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO SENT YOUR THE PM (OR POSTED THE MESSAGE -- DO NOT CLICK ON IT! As of right now that newest members on the board will not be able to use the pm function right away (kind of like the spam filter when you first join the board) to avoid a spammer joining and sending mass innapropriate pms to members.

3) You have the ability to block members on the message board. In your my controls section you can enter the name of the user who is bothering you and block them. Please feel free to use that feature.

4) Remember 99.9% of the spam that hits the board you never see. Sometimes some gets through. Ranting and raving about how appalled you are at what was posted only draws further attention to it. Please just Report and Ignore and it will be removed as soon as humanly possible and that poster will be banned. If you get a spam pm please just send me the username of the member who sent it to you. At this time that is the best we can do.

I hope that this information helps a little. Thanks to everyone for forwarding on their pm's and reporting and ignoring on the board! Thank you for keeping the 19th hole something Vince can be proud of!

Thanks

ps...please try and remember that just because there is spam on the board does not mean it is ok to break other policies. If you are not sure what they are please make sure to review them and alter any policy you are currently breaking!
