Seems like nobody is posting concert reviews anymore. Though I rarely post here for reasons known to many of you, I hate to see the message board simply die out from lack of participation.

John and I went to two shows in March, at Soaring Eagle and then two nights later in Hammond, IN. We had great seats for both and backstage passes for Soaring Eagle. We smoked four slabs of baby back ribs for Vince and the band and took them to the MI concert, and they got great reviews two nights later!

Vince was still in a fair amount of pain from his back at these two shows, he sat down during the meet and greet and occasionally on stage. But the shows were great and pretty long, especially for casino shows. They didn't give him a time frame in Hammond and he loved the venue and the sound and he played for a long time.

Last Friday we drove to Louisville, KY to see Vince at Horseshoe, Elizabeth. We took more ribs and met Benny when we arrived so he could put them on the buses. We enjoyed a really revved up show by Vince and the band, it was a lovely outdoor venue and Hugh was able to mix the sound perfectly. Again we had down front and center seats, and Vince treated us to a rocking evening. It was obvious that he was feeling much better, he was really moving around on stage and had the old leg thing going like I hadn't seen in years. They gave him two hours to play and he used every second of it, no stories just mostly hot rocking songs. He played a brand new song that he wrote in honor of Billie Holliday, and it was a wonderful, bluesy song. Hopefully it will be on the next album.

After the show we again went to the meet and greet and discovered that we have finally found the way to Vince's heart...yes, straight through his stomach! We were both treated to big bear hugs in thanks for the ribs, which he had already devoured. I'm thinking that he's going to be expecting them every time he sees us-and we are happy to oblige whenever we can.

We had drinks with Benny after the meet and greet and he said that Vince is writing for a new album which will be recorded in 2010 and then in 2011 there will be a big tour in support of the album. He'll do some shows in 2010 but not a lot. But he did extend the retainers for the entire band and crew through 2011 so we'll have the treat of the same great band. Benny confirmed that Vince's back is much better and he's back out on the golf course nearly every day.

We also talked with Jeff White a bit before dinner and asked what he was up to and he said that he hoped to record another album at some point, but he isn't sure when.

We'll be having Vince withdrawal now, not going to the Wrigley Field show due to a conflict, but hoping to make the Palm Desert one in October.

Anybody lurking around here that attended any of the other four shows this weekend?

Hi Kathy,
Good review! Guess I posted mine in the wrong place. It's under Members Only, Meet & Greet Report.

I went to the show in Bossier City, LA on Sunday 5/24. It was GREAT!
I noticed that Vince seemed to not be feeling top-notch. There was a chair on stage, but he stood for the entire two hours. His voice and performance were definitely as good as ever!

When I went backstage for my M & G, he was sitting, but got up as I entered, and mentioned he'd had surgery. Later, another fan who was also in M & G told me it was his knee. From reading your post, it sounds like it was back instead. Is that correct? How long has it been? I hope he's feeling better everyday! Maybe he'll have a short break before the Challenge America.

It was a wonderful show, as always, and I look forward to another soon!

Vince has not had back surgery, but he has had persistent disc problems for a while now. Benny says he should probably have surgery but is balking. He's apparently tried a lot of different treatments. He was obviously feeling really well in Elizabeth, he was all over the stage and in a great mood and never sat down, even at the meet and greet. I know he was playing golf every day on this trip, so possibly he hurt himself the day you saw him. I hope it wasn't a set back.

Kathy....hey girl...haven't heard from you in ages and have been wondering if you have been out there on the Vince circuit!LOL!! So happy to hear that you have been to some great shows and are still in contact with Benny (ya gotta love that guy). Vince hasn't been anywhere near us in almost 2 years and wasn't performing while we were in Nashville so we haven't seen him in ages and are going through major withdrawl. I keep checking the tour page weekly to see if any Toronto dates are added but so far nothing. We are going to Nashville the 2nd week of August so I am still holding out hope that maybe...just maybe he will be performing there during that time.
Thanks so much for the detailed review....as always I feel like I was there with you. Keep in touch....it has been way too long since we have chatted! biggrin.gif

Thanks Kathy for writing that review.

That is so funny about finding your way into Vince's heart with ribs.

Enjoyed reading your stuff....

Hi Leah, great to hear from you as well! I think of you often. We've had fun with Vince and the band this year, we always hook up with Benny and sometimes Tom and Hugh too.

You should call Benny, he mentioned that he hadn't heard from you in a long time (we were talking about the fan club the other night). Maybe he would know if Vince is going to do anything local while you are in Nashville. He has a pretty good handle on that stuff.

Have a great vacation and keep in touch.

I have to say you are right - hardly anyone is on the board anymore. I use to love reading all the different post, but now we're lucky if we see a review of his shows.

I am going to his show tomorrow night in Lowell, MA. This is my 26th time seeing him so I am really looking forward to it.

I wish I could afford to go the Wrigley. I am sure that is going to be a great show.

I would also love to hear your review of the show, Heather! And I'm sure all of us would love to hear reviews from others on here that are going to shows...unfortunately some of us are 'Vinceless' this year, and some of us have been 'Vinceless' for quite awhile!

Well, speaking of no Vince in our neck of the woods (NW Washington) he hasn't been here in a long time. I look at the Calif. ones listed and think one of these days maybe I could fly there if it's not too far from one daughter who lives near Santa Rosa now and get her to go with me. My hubby doesn't fly if he can help it - he had back surgery and also one hip replaced and he's done really well but still shys away from flying. Before his back surgery he would get 4 cortisone shots a year for it - no more than 4 allowed and then he would be good for a while and maybe Vince is getting cortisone shots when he's moving better. I've also had more than a couple of cortisone shots for pinched nerves in my back but the last one has lasted 6 months now which is really good. Good to read all the reviews of the rest of you who have been fortunate enough to go to so many of Vince's shows. Love hearing about them at least! laugh.gif

Fredia,

My mom gets some type of shot in her neck every so often for neck pain. I don't know if it's cortisone or not, but her dr. in Houston and the dr. here gave her different shots and the shots she got from the dr. here didn't help as much as the other did. Needless to say that I probably inherited neck problems from both sides of the family...my mom has neck problems, and my grandmother (father's mom) also had a lot of neck pain and when she was younger she only had one dr. who could adjust her neck and get it back to normal. My neck has been bothering me all this past week, with Tuesday being the worst...it was so bad that I had to take a couple Excedrin during training class because it was giving me such a bad headache I couldn't stand it anymore.
