My son-in-law Brad was scheduled for surgery for fusion of 5 vertebrae in his back for Sept. 14. They did a chest x-ray as a pre-op and now found he has an enlarged artery in his heart so his surgery is canceled and he has an echocardiogram scheduled Sept. 14. Am very concerned about this new condition and am asking my Vince buddies for their prayers for Brad and his wife and family. Thank you all in advance.

PRAYERS GOING UP!!

Nina, so sorry for this new finding, but THANK GOODNESS for pre-op tests! I've had two fusions, and was about to be rolled into surgery for my last one when the anesthesiologist came in and told me my potassium was so low I could go into fatal heart arrythmia. The surgery was postponed for over a month. I pray the new problem can be repaired, and he will be fit for his fusion surgery.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and kind words. It has been an especially trying year this year in the health department but I'm sure all will be well - just having faith in God and the medical industry. It is so good to have the suport of friends close by and online. Thank you again.

Some good news today - it seems as though it must have been the position they had Brad in when they took the xray because the echocardiogram showed everything is ok. Thank God and all of you for your prayers. His thoracic surgery is now scheduled for next Thursday 9-23 at 9am. So please continue prayers as this is a serious one. Thanks again.

Thank you all for your prayers. Surgery went well and Brad is doing well. In a LOT of pain but he is looking much better today. He will have a long haul back but the biggest hurdle is over. Thanks again.

Toni

Brad came home today- now just trying to get adjusted to moving around. He has a hospital bed and walker and of course his "turtle shell" which he will have for 5-7 months. Can't bend and only can take it off once a day for a sponge bath and change dressings for now. Physical therapist coming tomorrow and home health nurse. Good thing his wife is a nurse so she has a handle on all this. He is still in a lot of pain. He can't ride in a car for about 3 months. They are sending someone to the house to remove his staples. He has staples down the middle of his back and on his right hip where they took part of his bone to use for the operation. He has two titanium rods in his back. So all of this is taking some getting used to. So please keep the prayers for a speedy recovery coming. And thank you for all the prayers and thoughts - they surely are felt and appreciated.

Nina, it's great to know your son-in-law is home. I have the greatest of sympathy for him since I've been in the same situation. My first fusion sounds very similar to what he's going through. I had to stand, walk or lie down for 2 months, and couldn't ride in the car. No sitting. The hip they took the bone from for the graft was sore for 2 years. And, I was in my brace from June until the following March. The very worst part of mine was that my youngest child was only 8 months old, in addition to having two older children. Thankfully, my husband and family were great. My prayers certainly go out to him and the family, and I pray this solves his back troubles forever.
