[font=Times New Roman][size=2]Saw Vince Gill in concert last night. Saw him in concert for the 1st time in '95, and I didn't think I could be anymore impressed by his talent, but I was knocked over last night. Seeing him perform is watching history in the making. His depth of talent (song writing, singing, guitar-playing (and yes, Vince, the fiddle), and story-telling reaches beyond my wildest expectations. And if that wasn't enough, his ability to exude such warmth and connect with his audience can only come from a genuinely GOOD person. That was the icing on the cake. The song that will be forever burned in to my soul, Go Rest High on that Mountain, pierced my heart and shook every fiber of my being when I first heard it many years ago. I had a sister who took her own life a few years prior to the release of that song on the When Love Finds You CD. This song, with the words and the emotion that can only come through with Vince Gill's unique soulfully-rich voice, somehow pulled so much buried heartache out of storage and placed it in a better place. I could imagine her going "to heaven a shoutin." But it doesn't end there, I lost another sister last summer, who chose to leave us, too, in the same way. I dug out the CD and played it to help me through yet another most difficult and very sad time. Out of respect for Vince's life, I will not speculate why he wrote this song for his brother; any kind of suffering, no matter the source of it (or even the duration of it), when someone we love has left our world, we must believe he/she will go to "heaven a shoutin." When Vince sang this song last night, I had to look up and swallow a lot to keep from losing it. His performance was perfect and moving beyond any words to describe it.
AND his 17-piece band, what a broad range of outstanding talented musicians! This was such a FUN concert!! I plan to see many more Vince Gill performances in the future, hopefully again this summer. Hope to see more of Vince Gill's daughter, too. Her suprise performance at the end was terrific bonus! No doubt, she can really, REALLY sing!! It made her proud daddy tear-up. I LOVED it !! God Bless you, Vince Gill, for bringing so much of yourself to the fans. This Concert tour and the These Days CD set should make you a viable candidate for Entertainer of the Year award (AGAIN). Thank YOU many times over.

So sorry about your sister's. Vince sure knows how to write from his heart and soul. This song is so popular that many people have had it played at their loved one's funeral. He always says he still is amazed at how so many people have embraced it. He wrote it as a celebration of his brother's life and so many have taken it to their heart to give them peace. It is one of my all time favorites.

Glad you enjoyed the concert. I think they are amazing and incredible and so awesome. I just can not say enough about These Days concerts. cool.gif

I lost 2 sisters also and no one could ever know the pain unless you go through it.Vince touches so many hearts because he sings from his heart and I believe he feels his words.I don't get that from most of the folks out there now.I don't see any real emotion in them just real good acting. Some of them sing well but sound the same as everyone else and even look the same lol...Not Vince he is always real!! hugs mamabear

I am so sorry for your loss. Vince sang Go Rest High at the end of a concert at the Puyallup Fair in September. 1993. He said he hadn't recorded it yet because his label thought it was too sad! I had just lost my mom 3 months before that and I shed many tears. Of course I wrote and asked him to be sure to record as I am sure many others did as well and then his next album it was on it. Many people have derived comfort from this marvelous song as only Vince can sing it.

I too am very sorry for your loss. I also understand how that song has helped you as my father died in April of 94. At first it was so painful, I could listen to it. But I remember being in a parking lot not long after, and when it came on the radio, I started to turn it off but something told me to force myself to listen and once I did, I found a lot of healing in it. My sister was also taken from us but someone else made the decision for her to leave the earth, and it was very violent. Again, the song has helped me to deal with it. It's an amazing song, and I agree, it's mostly in the way he sings it. He is one of the most soulful, genuinely caring persons in the business. He is the real deal. He has my vote for Entertainer of the Decade!

Several years ago, Vince was performing at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA and his friend and record producer, Tony Brown, had been in an accident and was in critical condition. Vince talked about his friend, and then started to play "Go Rest High". He choked up and couldn't sing. I was close enough to the stage to see his guitarist, Jeff White, move over to Vince and just say "It's alright." The band just extended the intro until Vince was ready and he sang the most emotional, soulful version that I have ever heard. Vince wrote the song from his pain and sang it that night from his pain. The entire audience stood and applauded Vince -- I always felt they were trying to comfort him in the way that this song has comforted thousands of us.

Vince's songs are powerful. I've leaned on "Go Rest High" for a number of years now. In '98 we played it at my father's funeral - he loved it- and in '05 I had it played at my husband's funeral. We would go to Vince's concerts alot, so I know he liked it. Ever since, it seems like our local radio station plays it everyday around noon. I hear it almost everyday at work...it gets me through another day.
