Well, she obviously didn't have many opportunities to do things normal girls do with an absent mother and jailbird dad. Be kind - who knows maybe she didn't finish school. Some of the questions are hard for me to figure at times and yes, she should know when to shut up but without a normal homelife and training you shouldn't blame her - think of walking in her shoes for a mile or so. I wouldn't want to be her and living like she had to.

I can understand her not knowing that Budapest is the capitol of Hungary...heck, when I told my father that, he couldn't even remember what country Budapest was the capitol of, and he's got a few college degrees...but when she said to Jeff "France is a country, right?" I think even he was a little bit taken back with that question! And then her saying that she's heard of Turkey, but not Hungary...well, that's a little bit scary, like Laura said!

I was being kind. She did finish high school and went to college for a while!! I think she had as many opportunities as alot of other girls probably more. Alot of people in this country don't have a great homelife or have had tough roads. She went to live with her grandparents when she was very young, according to her website, so that was probably "normal" for her. I am not blaming her for anything....Anyone who doesn't know the answer should not go on and on. I didn't know the answer, but I certainly know that France is a country!!

I haven't watched the show much, but did watch it a time or two, and some of those questions they ask makes me wonder what schools are they getting these kids from? Especially if they're just regular 5th graders and not in Advance Placement type classes! Some of the questions they ask I couldn't even answer! Now if you guys want something scary...try the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test that high school students have to pass in order to graduate...when we left FL, so many students who did well on the SAT couldn't pass the FCAT, so if a student did well on the SAT but failed the FCAT, they were allowed to still graduate. Luckily I only had to take the highschool competency test to graduate.

I agree many of the questions are difficult, I just thought she should have said gosh I don't know the answer, then kept quiet. It wasn't her not knowing the right answers, it was everything else she said that was really odd!

My kids took the California High School Exit Exams when they were Freshman in high school and both passed without a problem. But I've heard of other kids who couldn't pass after taking it many times. Some kids don't test well, but others just don't study or learn. I think a lot of it has to do with how well they are educated in elementary school, how efficient those teachers were, and how involved the parents were to make the kids take school/learning seriously. JMO!

In FL, I'm pretty sure that the problem of some kids not testing well has nothing to do with them not passing the FCAT...I haven't seen the test myself, but from everything I've heard and read, it's the test itself that's too difficult. And if kids are making good scores on the SAT, but yet not able to pass the FCAT, that should be a clue to everyone that the test is *way* too hard.

Here's what I read on Wikkipedia about substituting ACT and SAT scores if a student can't pass the FCAT.

A score of 15 on either the Reading or Mathematics sections of the ACT or a 410 on the Reading and a 370 on the Mathematics sections of the SAT can be used to waive the FCAT requirement after the student has failed the 10th grade test at least three times
