In the Los Angeles area try $4.05 a gallon.

I drive 510 miles a week just to & from work.

So it's costing me $91 in gas a WEEK!

That's if I don't drive ANYWHERE else! So if I crash @ work it saves me $18 & 102 miles in wear & tear on my truck.

It is now $4.00/gallon here

Both Rick and I travel about 50miles a day for work so it adds up. I get about 27 miles/gallon in my car. Rick has a truck and gets about 18 miles/gallon, thank goodness he has a motorcycle and rides that to work every chance he gets. That gets about 42 miles/gallon.

But you should know 1 gallon = 3,785 liter. Means we have to pay a lot more then you. My calculation says about 5,87€ for a gallon but you also have to change Euro into USD.... these are 9,26 USD. Isn't that horrible?

I know the news has been reporting that gas in London is around $10 a gallon...now I know Maike's in Germany, but it's probably around the same price, maybe a little less. We're paying almost $4 a gallon, England/Netherlands/Germany is close to $10 a gallon, but if you go to Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, gas is running 35-50 CENTS over there!!! Doesn't that just jar your mother's preserves to know that those of us in the Western Countries are paying 10x - 20x more than those in the Arab countries???!

Well, in the Seattle area it is $4.19 at Costco for regular which is cheaper by several cents than other places. What makes me upset is the fact that Congress has stopped the oil companies from drilling offshore and in Alaska and in Colorado and they say we have as much as Saudi Arabia but Congress won't allow drilling because of fear for the environment, etc. Also no new refineries have been built in 30 years and its time to forget about the caribou in Alaska and for the gov't to allow us to exploit our own resources instead of relying on the Middle East who mostly hate us and love to see our economies ruined - just look at the latest about unemployment going up and for the 1st time in years our new college grads can't find work - all because of the economy slowing down because of the price of oil and groceries aren't far behind - seems everything is energy related. Until the American people demand answers from Congress we won't have relief.

Anna, we are going back to Arizona in August. I keep checking the price of flights, it just may be cheaper to fly again. The problem is we have to bring Katelyns college stuff with us, so I'm trying to figure it all out. It still may be cheaper to fly, buy her a new inexpensive bike at walmart, and pack our suitcases with all of her stuff. Or we could UPS her stuff (not the bike *L*) and ride the motorcycles down...not sure what to do at this point, but I know our truck will cost a fortune to drive
On one of my trips I will definately make time to see you and hopefully we can time it with a concert

Work told us back in March the airlines would now be charging for all our baggage. We can take one suitcase and NOTHING else, not even a carry on unless we pay for it ourselves. Try going away for 3-6 months with only one suitcase full of stuff...The guys with big shoes and boots are dying *L*
Basically we are taking little and having our work stuff shipped to us and buying whatever else we need like shampoos, etc after we get where we are going. My friend has been deployed for 6 months (she stayed when I had to come back home for graduation) and she said everything has changed. No overtime allowed, hardly any employees working each disaster, they just keep a few and transfer them from place to place. I think money problems are everywhere now. Pretty sad...

Well, in the Seattle area we don't have to worry about paying for central air conditioning. We are having the coldest June since 1894! We just have to worry about price of natural gas for furnace to keep running. At least we aren't flooding like some folks are. It is very distressing that Congress won't lift a finger to help out their citizens. We need more drilling now and more wind and other nonpoluting ways of generating electricity. Most all of France's electricity is made up of nuclear plants and they have never had a spill or problem. Methane gas is coming on line also - cows galore take care of that. They are also talking about tides being harnessed to make electricity. We are mere mortals and Congress thinks they know what is best as they drive our economy into the ground with their decree that we won't harness our own oil deposits to lower the cost of almost everything until we can depend on battery operated cars.

And now Congress wants to make incandescent bulbs illegal...they want everyone to use CFL bulbs by the year 2014, but they fail to mention the 'safety hazards' of CFL bulbs, which are putting more money into the Chinese economy because they're *all* made in China. There's a video posted on
YouTube about the hazards of these bulbs. Those CFL bulbs, what they don't tell you are how to discard them (you're not supposed to throw them in the trash unless you double bag them in ziplock bags), what to do if they break (open the windows for 15 minutes, turn off central a/c and heating units, leave the room, clean up the powder with cardboard, put the broken bulb, along with the powder in a glass container with metal lid, pick up any remaining shards with duct tape)...those are things you're NOT told when you buy these bulbs. We're using quite a few of them, and we never knew this...the last ones we had that went out, we just threw in the trash.

They also don't tell you those bulbs are causing people to get migraine headaches - it triggers them in susceptible people and there was even a physician on TV talking about it and how he also has been getting migraine headaches. I don't need those to be back - I was so afflicted and they are horrible until I had a certain female surgery and my headaches all went away and I don't want them back ever!

Thanks for the link Anna. There is a lot of helpful info there. On my last deployment one of the people I worked with complained our office was not using the energy saving bulbs, so they switched them over. I did notice I don't like them near my computer, the light was to bright and put a glare on the desktop. I'm sure there are many options to choose from, but we don't have that luxury at work.
We do use them at home, just not where we read.

That is an awful lot for gas! I feel for you. In a poll CNBC conducted about whether or not Congress should allow off-shore drilling now that gas is so high, 81% of respondents said yes, drill now offshore! But, of course, Congress is ignoring what the people want. Guess McCain came out in favor of offshore drilling now but Obama said no - shouldn't. McCain also said he would take a second look at ANWR reserves in Alaska and might change his mind about that also. We can only hope. But Nancy Pelosi the congresswoman overseeing the House of Rep. said no - no offshore drilling or in ANWR. She is independently wealthy so everyday things that affect most of us don't affect her personally.

Well, when all those Politicians who vote no to off-shore drilling are voted out of office, maybe they'll realize they should have sided with the general public.
In the meantime the economy is just going to get worse with the price of gas and food going up and up and up. In a lot of areas there is no good public transportation that people can use to get to where they need to go, and even the price of that is going up because of the price of gas.

Just returned from our Oregon adventure.......Gas up there was around $4.19 a gallon. Much cheaper than our San Jose stations that range from $4.55 to $4.75 depending on the neighborhood and the type of station.
Friend in Oregon said that he thinks about the election the new PREZ and the Congress will set the gas prices at $5.00 per gallon and set it for two years at that rate. All stations, same price. Not bloody likely, as the big oil companies might lose a billion or two.

Well, gas prices are still going up-up in our area and many of us only use cars for "must haves" like work or school and groceries etc. At least the folks who aren't retired and are working for big companies probably are getting cost of living increases.
