Full Version: -93 Spins

Well, "The Reason Why" dropped by 93 spins on the latest Media Base chart....and several other singles past it (AJ's latest is one). The song dropped from # 28 to # 31.

I am not sure if that means it's "out of gas" or not however, I have not seen it take a -93 spins hit before.

My personal feeling is that it's time to debut that new single in early February! smile.gif

The Reason Why held up well for over 6 months (even though only small to modest airplay overall), MCA should be happy it was a solid "Top 30" for so long.

Is "What You Give Away" going to be a single? It is such a beautiful song that I can't help but believe it would really take off.

I don't know - that's the million dollar question here! smile.gif
I doubt it will be that one.
My money is on: Sweet Thing or Love's Standing....
(Not my first choices - just trying to "think" like the label).
Personally, I too think, "What You Give Away" would be a great choice.
(But it's from the "groovy" CD - same as "The Reason Why" - they may choose one from the "Rockin" record...

Thanks, Charlie. You are probably right, *sigh*, but did you see Vince do "What You Give Away" on the Grand Ole Opry? The host on GAC, Nan Kelly, said something about it being released as a single and so I was hopin' ... wub.gif

How about Rock Of Your Love ? I still think Cowboy Up w/ Gretchen Wilson would go good on country. The one with John Anderson,We Got To Take Our Country Back?
countrycrazy
My money would be on "Love's Standin'" mainly because the beat/tempo of the song is similar to some of Vince's other uptempo hits, like Liza Jane and Next Big Thing.

Speaking of The Reason Why, it's on the latest Rate the Music survey.

I did not see or hear that...interesting.
My money is still on a song from the "Rockin" record and agree Love's Standing seems to fit the Vince uptempo mold/sound.

However, any of the songs mentioned in all these posts would be great (IMHO)....radio most likely will not play it that much anyway (if recent past history is any indication). I hope they (radio) does play it more but I am not holding my breath!

I think Vince needs another trip to go see and talk to that IMUS guy! smile.gif

We were in a restaurant in Killeen yesterday having lunch, and they had a sandwich on the menu called Cowboy Up.

Imus played The Reason Why this morning. He still refers to the set as great and almost always mentions Vince when there is any other country singers on or even to the news reporters and poloticians who call in . He test everyone on country music .He is crazy about that project. Eddie M. and Troy G. were on the other morning and he really likes them but he did talk about These Days. cool.gif

Upon reflection, I think either Love's Standing or Cowboy Up is most likely to be the next release.

BTW, as a newbie on this board I really want to thank you for not ignoring my posts. On the few threads where I've posted, people simply pass over me and respond to one another, but you make me feel welcome! smile.gif

YOU are welcome. Everyone on this Message Board is just as important as the next person. We all have a common interest. We are glad you are a part of us. I'm one of the "older" ones here and I LOVE seeing new people join with us. Stay with us, now. You come back now, ya hea! smile.gif

smile.gif Thank you, bestamaw! I'm really glad you took the time to write so kindly.

... and of course I'll stay with you ... I just adore Vince and want to be part of this community very much.

ahava,

I don't think anyone really ignores you, it's just that sometimes people just reply to one post in a thread...and sometimes if you post and nobody responds, it's not that people are ignoring you, it's probably because they just don't have anything to say. Sometimes that does happen. smile.gif

I'm one of the longtime posters on the message board...been here since the first 'version' of VG.com went online with a message board about 11 years ago! Gee, can some of you believe it's been *that* long?!?!?!! And some of you I even knew before that...

Thank you. I think I had the newcomer blues yesterday. Also, it's difficult for me to imagine that others have nothing to say about my incisive posts. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

WOW! I am a true newcomer here then!

All of my life I have loved folk music. That led me to bluegrass, then to the more modern country which first showed me how great Vince is. Then I realized he also plays bluegrass (DUH!). Did anyone see his CMT Cross Country with Alison Krauss (another of my very favorite artists)? What really did it for me was finding out what a total mensch Vince is what with his social conscience and support of various charities. He seems to be 'the real deal' and just when I don't think I could love him more, he releases "What You Give Away" (please see my sig line). Dang, I want to meet him! hmmmm Maybe his wife and my husband could play cards or something while I talk with Vince for a few days hours. cool.gif

I'm still a semi-newbie and I don't post much but I've always felt welcome and enjoyed meeting all these new interesting people who have one thing in common.......VINCE!

Speaking of VINCE, I have a great Vince story. One of our special needs kids was in the office today. She has cerebral palsy and can only make noises, nothing you can really understand. You should have seen her face light up biggrin.gif when I mentioned Vince (He's her favorite too). As it turns out, she went to see him at Dollywood. She was somewhere watching the World Series and Vince came in and sat down and watched it with her. Lucky girl. sad.gif

That's just Vince. We all knew who should get the Humanitarian Award. Didn't we VGF? wink.gif

You are welcome! We enjoy talking to each other. I actually heard The Reason Why on XM satellite - channel 16 today when I was out in car. laugh.gif

I actually heard The Reason Why on the radio this morning. I do think they just might be starting to get the message. Maybe the Grammy nomination triggered but I have been writing and calling my little heart out. I sure hope something I have done has helped . wink.gif

I don't think a new single will be releaed until after the Grammys. Not sure what it will be , but have a feeling it will be "Sweet Thing: or one of hte more uptempor songs. while I love "What You Give Away", I don't think it's "radio friendly"- those almighty programmers wiill say that it is "too preachy".
I think it is amazing that "The Reason Why" has stayed on the charts for so long- it is porbalby Vince's longest charting singles, and despite the fact that ths single isn't a "top twenty hit", the box set is still high on the charts.

Thanks, Freida and Lady Gill! Okay, I'm officially embarrassed ... I can be sooooooooooo sensitive. As to my feeling ignored: erase, erase, erase. laugh.gif

Mary Anne, I disagree about "What You Give Away" being thought of as too preachy. Again, GAC pushed it on The Grand Ole Opry and CMT also mentioned it as a new single on their most recent awards show. IMHO, the song would have trouble on old Top 40 stations, but no way on the soft rock and country ones around where I live! That's because the lyrics are really about having a social conscience and that's VERY BIG here on the left coast. wink.gif

KathyH, I know what you mean. My best friend's youngest son is developmentally disabled and whenever she plays Vince, Sam smiles and dances around. It's just beautiful to see!

As much as I love What You Give Away, unsure.gif I just do not think country radio is going to be that friendly to many of the ballads /slower songs on These Days.

One excuse for The Key was it was to country.Feels Like Love was to happy. NBT was played a little bit. The lips song???????????? We all know what happened there with radio.

I am hanging in with a more upbeat tune to be released .
Just going according to what a lot of y'all have said about country radio in your area and mine too. They have played The Reason Why more than any "NEW" Vince tune from the last 3 records. However,I really don't think they would ,as a whole take another slow one, unfortunately Just burns my teeth mad.gif GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR how they can say something is to country or that anyone is to happy .OMG you'd think they were all shrinks .....................no offense to any if there are any here laugh.gif Just venting again.

And don't forget that Vince's duet with Barbara Streisand was considered "too pop" for country radio, even though 99% of the songs on country radio at the time were more pop than country. If I remember right, in an interview, Vince said he was sitting in his car listening to WSIX in Nashville and someone called in requesting the duet with Babs, and the DJ said to the caller "we can't play that, it's too pop." Vince was like "what do they want???!" huh.gif

I wouldn't be surprised if what country radio said about "The Key" being too country was part of the inspiration for Bill Anderson writing the song "Too Country"

Absolutely,Valerie. He came close to saying as much when they did the Carnegie Hall Show and he and Brad did the To Country song. I loved that one. I'm with Whispering Bill. To country..............what is that ????????????? and Vince's ,What do they want .

I'll let Vince know any day that The Key is wonderful. As all of his music . wink.gif

I just hope, whatever the next single is, that it's released soon! I really, really love "Some Things Never Get Old"... I wonder how THAT one would do at radio? It's so hard to say... and SO frustrating.
