[font=Times New Roman][size=2]Saw Vince Gill in concert last night. Saw him in concert for the 1st time in '95, and I didn't think I could be anymore impressed by his talent, but I was knocked over last night. Seeing him perform is watching history in the making. His depth of talent (song writing, singing, guitar-playing (and yes, Vince, the fiddle), and story-telling reaches beyond my wildest expectations. And if that wasn't enough, his ability to exude such warmth and connect with his audience can only come from a genuinely GOOD person. That was the icing on the cake. The song that will be forever burned in to my soul, Go Rest High on that Mountain, pierced my heart and shook every fiber of my being when I first heard it many years ago. I had a sister who took her own life a few years prior to the release of that song on the When Love Finds You CD. This song, with the words and the emotion that can only come through with Vince Gill's unique soulfully-rich voice, somehow pulled so much buried heartache out of storage and placed it in a better place. I could imagine her going "to heaven a shoutin." But it doesn't end there, I lost another sister last summer, who chose to leave us, too, in the same way. I dug out the CD and played it to help me through yet another most difficult and very sad time. Out of respect for Vince's life, I will not speculate why he wrote this song for his brother; any kind of suffering, no matter the source of it (or even the duration of it), when someone we love has left our world, we must believe he/she will go to "heaven a shoutin." When Vince sang this song last night, I had to look up and swallow a lot to keep from losing it. His performance was perfect and moving beyond any words to describe it.
AND his 17-piece band, what a broad range of outstanding talented musicians! This was such a FUN concert!! I plan to see many more Vince Gill performances in the future, hopefully again this summer. Hope to see more of Vince Gill's daughter, too. Her suprise performance at the end was terrific bonus! No doubt, she can really, REALLY sing!! It made her proud daddy tear-up. I LOVED it !! God Bless you, Vince Gill, for bringing so much of yourself to the fans. This Concert tour and the These Days CD set should make you a viable candidate for Entertainer of the Year award (AGAIN). Thank YOU many times over.
