Full Version: Thursday Ryman Show
The Nineteenth Hole > The Nineteenth Hole > The Main Room

I just got back from Vince's final Ryman show! It was 4:10 long and went by so fast I could of stayed for another 2 hours, and that's saying a lot for me, who gets antsy at long shows...LOL.

The set list was probably the same as last night's show, so won't even try to remember them all. Vince looked so great and was really wound up and telling stories like crazy, which made us all laugh a LOT! I always get a kick out of watching and hearing the reaction he gets from audience members who obviously are seeing him for the 1st time, or don't get to see him often enough to keep up on the jokes. He brings a freshness to them that still make me laugh out loud even though I might have heard most of them before.

No guest artists but to be honest, none needed. Vince is the whole package and put on an amazing show. Jenny introduced him tonight. John Hughey was in the audience and Vince pointed him out.

Vince knows that selling out shows in Nashville isn't easy. Folks here have a tendancy to take things for granted, and are often blase' about shows. So, it was sweet to Vince to see the full house and he really, really was sooo happy to get as many standing ovations as he did. And he loved when an older couple got up and cut a rug in front of the stage twice. I can't tell you how many times he would finish up his guitar work on a song and have his back to the audience then turn around and see us all on our feet cheering him. He got teary eyed over it a few times and really felt the love we all had for him!

I am so proud to have been there and am so proud of what Vince has acomplished with this box set.

Thanks Maggie for letting us know about the show....That is so cool that the RYMAN crowd appreciated him as much as we all do!!

Thanks Maggie. I sure would have loved to have been there. These concerts have been just the most fantastic I have ever seen. This is my favorite thing to do for entertainment and Vince sure gives his all . I can hardly wait to see him again in May .

Just wonder how many of those people were from out of town. Did you meet anyone from the fan club?

Great review! Thanks, Maggie!

I second everything you said! Last night's show was phenomenal, and my husband and I had the best time. Like you, we could have sat there all night. Vince is the complete package...unlike so many "artists" today. He writes, he sings, and Lord can he play! My favorite part of his demeanor though, is the fact that he still remains so humbled by it all. He is truly a nice person, and when you meet him on the street (like I've been lucky enough to do a couple of times), he's nothing but kind. He even held the door for my friend and me when we left the restaurant at lunch. I also loved the way he gushed about Amy last night. It's terrific to see someone that much in love and with that much respect for their partner. I just can't say enough about the concert. I wish everyone could have been there, and I wish more artists would play the Ryman. The small venues are just the best!

Oh Maggie I'm glad you had a great time. The Ryman is a wonderful place for an intimate setting isn't it? Just wish I could have been there too. I love Nashville anyway. If I'm ever able to move out of state, that's where I'm heading. Always something to do & somewhere to go smile.gif

I also wanted to mention that drummer Billy Thomas got married at the Ryman earlier in the day and Vince had Billy and new bride come out onstage. They were glowing! She's a dancer at the Opry and Vince was kidding Billy and asking him to clog.

Also Vince spoke so sweetly about his lifelong friendship with Benny Garcia and about how he wrote Little Brother for him. With typical Vince wit he said that Benny has never missed a show in 17 years....except for a couple days of legal stuff going on in Florida....Vince said Benny is the Father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby...LOL. I love Vince's at times "wicked" sense of humor. He never fails to crack me up. I still am laughing over his imitations of his Dad chain smoking cigarettes and talking in that gruff voice.

What a great night. Now I have to get out the door and run errands since I'm finally awake.

Thanks for posting such great reviews, and I'm glad everybody enjoyed the evenings. I'm smiling sitting here reading about the shows, it sounds like Vince is still enjoying himself at the shows. Maybe he just keep touring all over! Kay

Thanks for the review Maggie. Like others have said, I just wish I lived closer so I could have seen this fantastic show. Vince has really given his all for these concerts.

I am so ecstatic that the Ryman shows were filmed for a t.v. special and a DVD!! Thanks Maggie for the fantastic details -- I can't tell you how much I've appreciated ALL the wonderful reviews you've all shared here on the board, and how badly I wish I could've been to at least one of the shows from the current tour. It kills me!! But the fact that these recent shows from the Ryman are being made into a DVD helps take out some of the sting, so to speak. biggrin.gif

Let's hope the dvd will be of the ENTIRE show. Too many times concert videos are just shortened versions. After all fans that bought a 4-cd set of Vince's would definitely buy a 2-dvd release of a whole concert.

I've been wondering too if they might chop up the concert a lot for the TV special and the DVD. There were so many really wonderful moments, and so much great music, I would hate to watch the special or the DVD and realize that half of what actually went on at the Ryman was missing. I'm really hoping that they won't cut it down too much. Both nights, there was approximately 3 and a half hours of actual playing time. I certainly don't hold out much hope for a TV special to be anywhere near that long, but we can hope that the DVD release will be the concert in it's entirety. I wonder if there is a way that we, the fans, could have our voices heard on the subject. Anybody got any ideas??

So nice to read all the wonderful reviews from the Ryman shows.
Thrilled that this was taped for a DVD and hope Vince has a say in the editing process.

Kathy,
I agree with you. I would like the dvd to be as much of the show as we can get. If you know of a way that the fans can have some input on that, let me know.

Well, poor Alison gets a little weary of hearing from me, I think, but I'm willing to go to her with this request. I'll get back to you all.

There's a whole wealth of information at the HDnet website including a list of upcoming concerts and where to see them. Comcast cable doesn't carry them, but both Direct TV and Dish Network do. You can sign up for the mailing list that lets you know when concerts and music specials will run. Also there is a link to contact HDnet, maybe for us to find out if they will be editing the dvd. I'm thinking a shorter version of the concert will run first on HDnet (via cable or satellite) then a full version in some form will be on the DVD. Here's the link to HDnet.

PS: I noticed that they say on their website that they don't offer DVD's of their concert series, and to contact the artists website for that info.

I have already checked their website and noticed the no DVDs of their concerts. It would be nice if somehow Vince's store would make a DVD of the TV special available for purchase but I'm not holding out much hope. I guess I'm hoping the people who get this channel will help the rest of us out with a copy of the TV special.

Well, Vince did say at the show that the concerts were being filmed for a TV special and 'then hopefully for a DVD, which we will sell to you". Based on that, I'm hoping there is a good chance that a DVD will be made available. I do have Direct TV, so can tape the show when it runs, but would rather be able to buy a professionally produced copy of the show.

Why should Allison be weary of you - that's her job! laugh.gif

That's not Alison job. She is just a very nice person who try's to help us if she can . And Vince said a DVD would be made after they get done showing it alot on tv .They did the same thing with Amy's it was on Direct TV.
JBC
That's great news, Cathy. But you should have told us what Vince said. Those of us who weren't there have no idea what Vince said about the "possible DVD". We're pretty much in the dark and only know what has been posted by those of you who were there.

According to an article at the GAC website, a dvd is being planned from the two shows.
