Imus has been so good to Vince - I hope his comments do not cause more problems...Imus did apologize but there is still a call for him to be fired....not sure how it will turn out. Imus , I have heard, has had controversy over his remarks before...from MSNBC:
----
Don Imus is creating controversy again.
On his "Imus In The Morning" show Thursday, he referred to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos."
He was talking to Sid Rosenberg with Sports Talk on the phone about the Women's NCAA Championship game.
Imus started out talking about the Rutgers team as, "some rough girls from Rutgers. They got tattoos," and then went on to call them "some nappy-headed hos."
He compared them to the Tennessee team, saying "The girls from Tennessee -- they all looked cute."
The conversation then went on to compare the game to "the jigaboos versus the wannabes." Media Matters reported that the show's executive producer, Bernard McGuirk, made that comment.
Imus has more to say about those remarks, according to the New York Times. Imus said people should relax and not worry about "some idiot comment meant to be amusing."
A Rutgers spokesperson issued a statement saying, "We agree with Mr. Imus that this was, in his own words, an 'idiot comment.' We are very proud of the success of the Rutgers women's basketball team. Coach Stringer and the Rutgers players are outstanding ambassadors for this great institution."
MSNBC released this statement in response to the comments, "While simulcast by MSNBC, 'Imus in the Morning' is not a production of the cable network and is produced by WFAN Radio. As Imus makes clear every day, his views are not those of MSNBC. We regret that his remarks were aired on MSNBC and apologize for these offensive comments."

Imus is very good to Vince,But I remember he had made some comments about Amy and Vince went on the show to confront Imus about his remarks.Imus did say he was sorry and now he is very kind to Vince and Amy.Once again Vince spoke up!!! Gooooooooo Vince.I just wish people would speak up for Vince the way he does for others! Imus needs to think before he speaks! It was supposed to be funny but now in this world people just look for things to be angry at..A lot of lousy things are said and done today by the men that are in power.Women are thought of in awful ways! I think his remarks were an insult to all women of every color...Sad to think if you are not a HOT BABE you are treated like an idiot! Lord help the young girls that have to grow up in this world. To fire Imus would be a joke as those above him think the same way! lol hugs mamabear

This is strictly my opinion and I am not trying to start anything. Just expressing my opinion. I understand that everyone won't agree with me and that's not what I am writing this about. I respect all of your opinions.
I have listened to Imus for several years and do not agree with most of what he express's. I know talk show hosts are hired to stir controversy. Shame on him for the comments he made about the Rutgers team. I have heard him say much worse and again am not taking his side in a lot of them. "Most of them ,in fact". He has been on that show for a very long time (and MSNBC knew what they were getting when they put him on the air) and I don't see him going away. Even if MSNBC got rid of him ,he is still on radio in so many markets ,I doubt that he would ever go away.
The issue with his comments about Amy was that she had turned her back on the baby Jesus. Amy isn't the only one he has singled out over the years .IMO Christian radio did Amy much more a disservice than Imus. They boycotted her music ,she had concerts canceled and bore ,IMO ,the brunt of all the gossip. Again this is just my opinion. I mean no offense to anyone .Actually Vince went on the show to promote NBT and the comments came up and Vince set him straight by asking if he knew her. That's when Imus apologized to him and that was the end of the issue. Vince told him he was there to straighten him out or kick his ***
The thing I am saying is this, when you get a controversial figure such as Imus ,you know what you are getting. No body should be surprised at what comes out of his mouth . Doesn't make it right ,I just think that if MSNBC wants him out they will get him out not because some disagree with what he says (but because the rating's will plummet to the basement) because most of what he says is spontaneous and I really think he doesn't mean most of what he says.. One last time.................My opinion

LOL I agree!! I think The powers that run things will always allow that kind of stuff and I agree that people in Amy's camp were the first to point a finger and judge her.Other women are also very quick to judge also.Imus meant to be funny I think. He knows that is how people like to think now so he was trying to be what people want him to be lol Sad!I listen to him when I can,He has a right to say what he thinks as we do too!I don't always agree but it is our right to turn him off or on as we choose Have a great day!hugs mamabear

Imus has received a two week suspension. He and Al Sharpton(who IMO creates mountains out of molehills for every situation) were ont he Today Show this morning. While I don't agree with what Imus said, I think that he has apologized, the statement was not made intentiionally, and everything has been blown out of propotion. I also want to say tha tI am a Rutgers University graduate(Douglass College) and while I am proud that the basketball team made it to the finals, they totally blew the game.

Bonnie,
I have to agree with you about rap and Hip-Hop artists/music...also some of the African-American comedians. Why is it ok for the rap/hip-hop artists & comedians to say the exact same things in their lyrics/jokes as what Imus said, but yet they sell millions of albums and don't get suspended or kicked out? Do we ever hear of anyone saying that they're going to boycott Rap/Hip-Hop because the lyrics are degrading to women? No...just the opposite..it's one of the most popular music forms out there (for anyone who actually *wants* to call it music).

Well JMHO - Even if others say things no matter who they are - does it make it "right" for Imus to call a team "nappy headed...."? I won't say what he said. I personally would apologize to if I made those comments.
I do not think Imus should be fired but I do think he opened his mouth and inserted foot....he deserves a lot of this because of his own actions (words). It does not matter what others may say - to take responsibility for his own words takes maturity and integrity.
I do think he has apologized and did take responsibility. That's the right thing to do...regardless of what others say or do.
I found his comments insensitive and rude and I believe he was correct to own up to his remarks.
Again, JMHO and we can agree to agree or disagree...

Take Care,
Charlie

I totally agree,Charlie. He was wrong in saying what he did and he has apologized and will be meeting with the Rutgers team and their families in the near future.
I personally think he is sincere and I also think he meant no malice ( no excuse ,doesn't make what he said right). Now I do not know this man or anyone who is calling for him to be fired and I don't think he should be fired either ,however, in my opinion nothing he does or says will ever be enough for some.
Here is a link to Imus's site if anyone hasn't heard what he had to say. I doubt there are many who hasn't heard because it's been all over the air waves.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036713/This is another site that tells the bios of the people on WFAN .This is Imus's bio .

CBS Fires Don Imus
NEW YORK (Reuters) - CBS Corp. said on Thursday it would permanently cancel Don Imus' morning radio talk program, following racist and sexist comments made by the shock jock about a women's college basketball team.
"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent," CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said in a statement.
CBS said the cancellation of "Imus in the Morning" is effectively immediately. Its move comes a day after NBC Universal pulled its MSNBC simulcast of the show.
"Imus in the Morning" was carried on 61 stations across the United States.

The thing that bothers me the most about this is that it probably *won't* change anything in any other parts of the Entertainment Industry, such as MTV, rap music, comedy, etc. Those people will still be allowed to use the same degrading language that Imus used and there won't be any boycotts or anything else done about it. On the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric asked if this will trickle down to other forms of the Entertainment Industry and the only thing the person she was talking to had to say was "we'll have to wait and see." It would be nice if Viacom would follow thru and 'fire' any rap artists who use basically the same words in their songs as Imus did, and ban any degrading videos from their video channels.

True Valerie. I understand your thoughts.
However,I also think part of the Imus "problem" is he said it on public radio and along with that is the "advertisers"...once people back off with advertising dollars you are in trouble (Don't get me wrong - his words were sexist, racist and wrong).... Also, comedians and rap artists can have "adult" content as long as it's released so only adults that want to buy it - can. (And yes - it's tuff to monitor who get's a hold of adult themed content).
Labeled as "explicit", 18 and older etc.
I cannot say I am an expert on Rap or Hip-Hop as I never really have listened to any of it....not my cup of tea

I feel bad for Imus as I think he does know he crossed the line with his remarks directly at the basketball team.
I would hope it is a lesson for us all.
And yes - there will be a variety of opinions and I respect everyone's right to express themselves.

Don't mince words Anna...how do you really feel!

(I understand).
Like I said, I did not want/think he should be fired either (but I try hard not to minimize the wrong - he did)....in the end it's not our call.
I am sure Imus will find a way in the long run to recover from this, heal any wounds (his and others) and move on in a positive way...I would hope.
Take care,
Charlie
