VINCE GILL TALKS ABOUT THE POWER OF GIVING
Vince Gill, winner of this year’s ACM Humanitarian of the Year award, was asked backstage Tuesday night what he considered as his most rewarding humanitarian effort. "I’ll tell ya a story that maybe meant that maybe meant the most to me of any," reports X Radio. "I think the real beauty of doing something for somebody is if you are not trying to draw attention to yourself. And I think often times of the awkwardness if you go see a sick kid in the hospital there’s a camera crew, or there’s a film crew, or whatever there is around, and I went to see a kid in the hospital who was sick and we talked for a good while; and then when I was leaving, his father walked me out.
"And his father said, ‘I just wanted to thank you for coming to visit my son.’ I said, ‘Oh, it’s a pleasure and it was a blessing for me and I enjoyed it very much.’ He said, ‘But I’m gonna tell you this. There’s been a lot of people coming to visit my kid and you’re the only one that ever came without a film crew.’ And what that said to me was really invaluable, you know, that even though you’re giving of heart, if you are giving of heart with the wrong wish for what is coming your way, then there’s no point in doing the good deed. So, I’ve always not cared where the credit goes and I don’t like attention, that’s always been awkward, so that would be about one of my favorite stories of all.”
Vince, thanks for being being so humble - that's one of the many qualities I love about you.
Love, Debbie

No telling how many times Vince and Amy have done this type of thing...and they didn't even want anyone to know they did it...they simply give from their heart and don't expect anything in return...I think when you are truly blessed, then you can go out and try to be a ray of sunlight for someone else...when we look at Vince & Amy and we see how much they love and care and respect each other, we know they are truly blessed...and we're all truly blessed because we have Vince & Amy in this world...
Thanks for the article, Debbie...I enjoyed it so very much...

What a great guy!! The cream definitley rises to the top..... Even if Vince isn't seeing the chart success he saw in his "heyday" I don't think he really cares. He is just content to make music, share his talent on other people's projects, and do good deeds along the way. Too bad he's such a rare commodity---if there were more like him, the world would be a happier, healthier place....

Those of us that are really huge Vince fans know that Ms. Hazel almost loves Vince as much as we do. She always mentions Vince or Vince and Amy in her articles when possible. Here's what she had to say about the ACM Awards.
When NASCAR's Tony Stewart introduced Vince Gill and presented him with The ACM/Home Depot Humanitarian Award, he said Vince raised more than $30 million -- mostly to help kids. Goodhearted Vince said his wife Amy Grant was more giving than he is. Vince also asked Caitlin, a Make-a-Wish Child, maybe 7 years old, to the stage. After meeting her while she was getting autographs, he gave the child his Humanitarian Award trophy. Let's hear it for Vince!

Love Ms. Hazel !!!
Am so glad that she mentioned Vince and his kind generosity in her column. For all of us who know how sweet Vince is, it seemed natural for Vince to do what he did...while I didn't expect him to do this, I was not surprised at all that he did that...
And in case I have not mentioned this on the message board here, I emailed the ACM people to ask them if that award was 'THE AWARD' that Vince was to receive (because alot of times they get an award and then get a different one later that is inscribed)...but I was told by the Academy people that this was indeed 'THE AWARD' he was to receive and that it was already inscribed with his name...now, doesn't that make it all that much sweeter??? I say it does!!! That's right, Ms. Hazel...here's to you, Vince!!!

I Still have that segment on tape....I have watched it at least 1/2 dozen times or more...Very generous...
Watching Caitlin's mother watch this as it unfolds...Is a tear jerker...She knew the meaning of it...A memory to last a lifetime..

Thanks for the article Debbie. I love Vince and Amy both for this reason as well as many others. There is hardly a time that goes by that you don't read about something one of them has done just for the sake of kindness toward another. I think when you are truly in love like they are, you bring out the best in each other, and they certainly do that.

Well perhaps it's not appropriate now he's married to Amy, but he just looks so peaceful in the pic.

No she probably wouldn't, I think she knows where Vince's heart is at.
