Anyone attend the show last night? I was reading on Amy's board where Vince was sick last night.

Here is an article about the show:

sad.gif Poor Vince was very sick .I could tell the moment he walked onstage. He gave it a valiant try but his voice just wouldn't cooperate.

I paid $500 for two front row seats. Do I think it was worth it? You bet it was. 2 1/2 hours of Vince beats 5 hours of most other performers. My sister in law yelled out to him " Vince even sick you sound good" I think he appreciated that.

I do think he owes us a return concert to make up for the truncated one. And yes I would pay another $500 to go.

The Del McCoury band , I have to add ,was fantastic. Their instrumentals had my heart racing so fast

Vince Gill is always there for his Fans. Other performers would have canceled the concert because they are not 100%. I'm glad you had a good time any way. Thanks for the up date. gillgirl IN PA. laugh.gif

I goofed up my first published try at replying to this question on the RI show, so my apologies. And thanks, Amber, for helping me! I've been to about 40 Vince shows and have seen my share of unusual concerts, so it wasn't a total surprise to see Vince ill. As others have noted, most performers would have cancelled their show, largely so their egos don't get tarnished by risking looking bad. But not Vince...he knows we'd all gone to the expense and trouble of attending and wasn't about to disappoint us. I myself had come back up to my home area from Florida, scheduling my vacation around this very concert.

The review herein of the Wallingford, CT show two days later notes that Vince asked the audience whether they'd been at another (former) venue in that town, when the power had gone out. I was at that show, back in the 1990's, and I've often cited it as an example of the heart which Vince has for his fans. The venue was a theater-in-the-round and Vince was only into his second number when a transformer blew in the area.

After some confusion, Vince continued the show as an "unplugged" performance. He and his band simply set up as much acoustic equipment at the lip of a given side of the stage, and then sang & played their hearts out. No microphones or amps; it was just a big living room atmosphere. After several songs, they'd move over to the next side, and so on. Vince gave us a full length show. The audience cooperated by remaining very quiet, so that everyone could hear. As my pet peeve is people who pay big money to see a show and then chat all through it, disturbing everyone around them, this was an added perc to the afternoon!

Readers may be aware that Corrina has been onstage this tour with mom 'n dad, as she was for most of Thursday's RI show. Bekka Bramlett babysat her, all the while singing her own vocal parts and also showing Corrina how to make angel wings while running back & forth behind the band! Corrina was out front with Amy at the mic, singing along for the final numbers. Vince told us that his daughter requested "What You Give Away"...I'm sure he closes with it normally, anyway, but that was cute.

The afternoon of this show, a friend of mine briefly met Vince in the parking lot of the local inn near the venue. In spite of his illness (of which she hadn't known), Vince graciously posed for a photo & signed an autograph. He said little but that's totally understandable, given his voice. Kudos to his band, as well as Amy & the Del McCoury Band, for going the extra mile in covering for Vince's vocal shortcomings. As others have noted, an "abbreviated" show with an ill Vince Gill is still better than many other entertainers' best efforts. The man cares...and that's why his fans do, too.

I went to the show last Wednesday in Vienna Virginia and he did seem like he was coming down with something. I got a m&g pass and when my turn came I asked him if he played golf and he said "no they had Corrina" he also looked very tired which I attributed to him having a picnic with some of the injured soldiers from Walter Reed Army Hospital all day.

I was a great show as usual. We were in the third row and I almost caught some of his sweat! (just kidding!)

I am so jealous.Sweat yet !!!!!!! laugh.gif

I went to the New Hampshire show and his voice was almost gone. He let the band members fill in and it was a really good show. The next night in Connetticut his voice was much improved and the show was about 4 hours long. Corrina came out and sang back-up on a couple of songs and she also hula hooped for us. I met Joyce, Rob (joyce's husband) and Linda from England and we all went to both shows.

Vince was so funny in NH when he wasn't singing. It was a great road trip, which we must do again ! biggrin.gif
