I received that MCA email that had the link that encouraged CMA a voters to vote for Vince for:
* Album of the Year
* Entertainer & Male Vocalist of the Year
and to also consider "The Reason Why, "What You Give Away" and "If I Make Mississippi"....for "Vocal Event Of The Year....(any one of the three songs).
I can only assume "If I Can Make Mississippi (with Lee Ann Womack)" may be the next single (if MCA is asking those who vote to consider it for CMA awards....JMHO.

I got this too. I thought it was pretty cool. The only thing is the other morning I heard Hazel Smith that the votes are already in.

The nominations are being announced on August 30. I really like that song, I wouldn't have a problem if that's the next single even though I don't think it makes any difference with the way commercial radio is now.

Me either, Val. I never get any emails about Vince even though I'm signed up for them. I get them for Reba & Trisha but never get any for Vince.

The deadline for voting on the second ballot is August 22. The top five vote getters in each catagbory will be on the final ballot which will be announced Aug. 30. I can only assume by the email(whiich is the one MCA sent out to CMA voters) that Vince is in the running in those catagories.

CMA voting is only allowed by CMA members- not the general public.

If Vince doesn't get all the nominations he is up for there is something terribly wrong with the voting system.................IMO

You are preaching to the choir, my friend!!! I think we all feel that Vince gets the short end of the stick when it comes to radio. But could part of it be the people promoting the CD? I mean, for instance...why is it that Brad Paisley currently has 2 singles from the same album out there being played numerous times everyday, and "whomever" or "the powers that be " seem very slow to release more singles from These Days? (I don't mean this as a slight to Brad, he's cute as he can be, and works hard for the country music industry.) Just a thought.... Kay

I personally don't blame "the powers that be" (with MCA)...they have tried for years to release singles - it's the "radio" powers that won't play them. Vince's group allowed Vince to release a 4 CD set of all NEW music! - How many artists get to do that?
Radio is one big consolidated business that wants mostly young & "hip" audience IE: teenagers to early 30's....demographic. Playlists have shortened and there is a TON of "older" artists that no longer find themselves getting played....
I honestly think MCA is carefully marketing the "These Days" set and doing a great job - I do not think releasing 4 or 5 singles in a year that get next to NO airplay and basically stall on the charts is going to help Vince. Using satellite radio, AOL, concerts, TV appearances, commercials etc...MCA is looking for alternatives to get Vince's music heard (along with trying radio as often as they think is appropriate).
Again JMHO and I do understand Vince fans frustration that he rarely gets played on radio - however - it eventually happens to ALL artists ( It happened to Cash - Jennings - Haggard the list is long and growing...there's only so much radio time, so many slots and an ever growing list of old and new "stars")
Again - JMHO and my 2 cents

Does anyone remember if, during the Fruit of the Loom commercial, if Vince's name was listed anywhere as to it being him who was singing with the FOTL guys? That would have definately given Vince more exposure if it had been put anywhere on the commercial (down at the bottom) when it's being aired, especially on network TV, because there might be people who don't know who Vince is, so even if they liked his voice in the commercial, they'd have no idea who was singing if his name wasn't listed. Heck, that commercial alone could generate more sales for Vince...

I don't recall seeing his name . I do know that it was shown at the movies.
Charlie also hit the nail on the head .
I personally have not listened to "country radio" for well over 6 weeks . I even wonder if it really exist .

Charlie explained the situation great. You really can't compare Vince & Brad, they are at different points in their career. Brad is a favorite with the radio stations now and they will play anything he puts out. It's pretty obvious that they won't play Vince no matter what he puts out. I guess that means Vince doesn't appeal to the younger & hipper audience. If he did, they would play him. I never listen to the country stations I have. When I do listen to the radio, it's satellite radio. I gave up on commercial radio more than 4 years ago. It doesn't seem like anything has changed with them.

I also rarely listen to the radio anymore. The most I have it on is on Saturdays when there's nothing on TV. I do put it on Sunday mornings before we go out and I have it on in the car, but that's about it...sometimes I'll turn it on before I go to bed at night, but that's usually not for too long...15 - 30 minutes.

Just jumping in here to add my frustration with radio... and I agree it's just that point in Vince's career where his heyday on radio is over - unfortunately for us! I remember about 5 years ago, surfing through the country music channels and hearing Vince on every single one within minutes. They played him constantly. It was heaven! Just remember, everybody - he has won every award conceivable (and is still winning them) and he is being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He is definitely appreciated in the industry, and the popular artists of today can only hope to aspire to what Vince has achieved! (And as mentioned, they too will fall off the charts at a certain point later in their careers - it's inevitable). He's still writing and making music, still being asked to sing on others' albums, and is still filling concert seats too. So let's just keep on supporting him and enjoying his music and talent, and spreading the word like good fans do.

Radio or not, he is and always will be my favorite artist.
