Full Version: Vince interview

Hey All,

I know I can't post a direct link, but if you go to the WYCD homepage and then click on the link that says "online," you can find a good phone interview with Vince. He covers many things we already know--like the snake story, but there are some funny tidbits in there. I think the entire thing is about 8 minutes long.

Thanks Mary. It's about the same as what was said when he called the station here but you know I just never tire of that guy. laugh.gif

Since it is an website connected to a radio station, I think you can post the direct link- here it is:

That's a really great interview!!! Vince is so funny...I really hope that radio gets behind this new single coming out...I'd still really like to hear it!!!
Mary Redd
Well, Becky, that would be great, but I really don't see that happening. They fed Vince the lines of "we love you here" and "you are my favorite". If that's indeed true, they don't put their money where their mouth is!! As a matter of fact, the main dj said he'd play Vince's new song, which about caused me to fall out of bed! Well, they wrapped up the interview, went to some commercials, came back with a song that was from an American Idol person, played a game, played another song by someone from Oklahoma who WISHES he was Vince, then went to more commercials. I had the phone in my hand to call for the song when they came back and the dj admitted he "FORGOT" to play Vince's song. That's how into Vince they are. Then, after the song, they went directly into commercials and didn't say another word about it.

I did email the dj and told him how much I appreciated them talking to Vince and that it was great to hear him on the station after such a long absence from radio. I couldn't immediately find the interview on the homepage, so I asked about it's location. The dj grunted back a terse reply about where to find the link, and that's all we'll probably hear from Vince on that station..... sad.gif Thank goodness for cd players and the smaller stations around here!!!
Becky
Well, that's pathetic, Mary...I do recall that they joked with Vince that they haven't had to actually 'buy any music' in quite a long time...I guess those are the perks of being a radio dj, but you know, if that were my profession, I would still support my favorite artists by buying their music for my own personal collection, you know???

Will be interesting to see if they ever play Vince's new song again...I was surprised to hear an old Vince tune just yesterday on our biggest local country station...they actually do play Vince maybe 2 or 3 times a day, but I would faint if they played a song of Vince's that was newer than 10 years old...all our station wants to talk about right now is getting to talk to AJ on the morning show tomorrow morning...I don't know what they plan on asking AJ...but I'll probably try emailing them soon to see if they plan on interviewing Vince anytime in the near future...

Thanks for letting us know what happened after Vince's interview...I know that for Vince, it's all a part of the job to him...but at the same time, he doesn't have to do these radio interviews if he doesn't want to...he doesn't have to do the CMT interviews and GAC interviews that he does and he certainly doesn't have to do all the charity benefits that he does...I know that Vince says it bothers us that radio doesn't play his songs more than it bothers him...well, Vince...that's true because it certainly DOES bother me that radio doesn't play his new music...!!!

Well out here it's going just like I expected it to go. I called today and the person answering the phone said ,I don't think we have that yet. I told her that was strange because Thursday morning when Vince called in Dave Pratt had played it.

I think the right hand has no clue what the left hand is up to. mad.gif

Anna, I'm sure that's what I'd hear, too. Or, my other favorite, "I'll see if I can get that on for you...." with the silent "yeah, RIGHT" added on there!! It's really a waste of a phone call for me to even try to request on that station. They either don't answer the phone, or say they don't have it, or they'll 'try' to get it on, which never happens!

Thanks for sharing that link for the interview. It sure was good!!!

Thanks for sharing the link. Vince is a mess! What a great interview - I'm really looking more forward to Vince's new records now.

Looking forward to the new cd set in October. I am not holding my breath for our local country radio to play any of it any time soon. It's a shame they don't recognize real talent when they hear it. Some of the stuff they do play is just unreal. I don't listen very much anymore and trying to get through to them to play Vince is just a waste of time. They say they will try but it never happens. Come on October 17.

I called in again to ask them to play the new release. Just haging in until I see "if they can SQUEEZE it in " mad.gif
Becky
Tell them to SQUEEZE harder, Anna...LOL!!!
Debbie O. Fennell
Anna, keep on trying! I'm doing my part here in Charleston. Beka, we'll squeeze it in if we have to go and do it for them. tongue.gif

I am so furious. mad.gif I just called and the DJ said he didn't think THEY left it there for him.I said who are THEY and he said the program director and I ask why THEY wouldn't leave it for him and he said THEY had not added it yet. I told him if it was played once and wasn't added how would anyone know about it or if they liked it. No answer. This guy is very good and I like him and the A.M. DJ . He did say he had it written down to play if it was there. ????????Now why wouldn't THEY leave it there to play in case someone wanted to hear it????????. I am calling and bugging the heck out of them. It's really not the DJ. I know if Dave Pratt could play it he would. And the other guys name is Big Shoe Stu Evans. They both like Vince a lot. I think their hands are tied.

YIKES mad.gif
Becky
Well Anna...hate to say it, but that sounds like the same song, only the 2nd verse...that is what I got everytime I tried to call in and request one of the singles from NBT with our local stations...I called, I emailed..and I have to say that usually they didn't answer the phone, but I did get a few of them to answer my emails..they all wanted to talk about how they had played a round of golf with Vince or that they went to some charity event and met him, etc..they all admitted that they loved Vince and his music, but literally said their hands were tied as to whether they could play the song I was requesting or not...I wound up telling them that I supposed my hands were tied too then..because I just couldn't get them untied to swap over to listen to their station anymore...it seems a vicious circle of 'we can't play it because it's not in the rotation' which is up against, 'well, how is going to get put in the rotation if no one hears it???'...do not the listeners have a say in what gets played on the stations at all anymore??? It appears we don't...I'm right there with you on the frustration, Anna...I think I'll pick up the phone in the next few days and see just what my local stations know about Vince's new music coming out...maybe now they have Alan Jackson's call out of their system..he was supposed to call in to the station yesterday morning..don't know what he said because I didn't listen...no offense to Alan..I just wasn't up that early!!! Lately I think they've thrown out all the female singer's songs except for Carrie Underwood...no offense to Carrie either..but what happened to all the other great female singers they could be playing??? Martina, Reba, Sara, Terri Clark, Jo Dee Messina, etc...around here, if you are not AJ, Toby Keith, Dierks Bentley or Rascal Flatts, you don't get played...AAARRRGGGHHH...and the radio stations wonder why we all would rather just listen to our cds!!!
Anna Leighton
I'm just going to ditto all that Becky .I do not know what else to do. Vince obviously has fans or he wouldn't be selling out concerts. Corporate owned radio stinks

Well, we had only one country station here in Seattle till a few months ago another one came and they have a more relaxed attitude about what listeners want and I'm going to try them. The old station started having fewer commercials like the new station and other little things like more openness about freebies for listeners. The new station advertises on TV and so far it is superior to old one. Competition is what we need in every market! Then we'd hear more Vince and anything else we request.
