Full Version: Great Song Idea For Vince's New Box Set
The Nineteenth Hole > The Nineteenth Hole > The Main Room

I don't know if Vince ever reads these, but I have a great idea for a couple of songs Vince should cover on his new box set. I am sure they would be chart toppers. These songs were hits for Dan Seals, and Vince's voice could take both songs to a new level. The songs are "One Friend" and "Everything that Glitters". Think about it, listen to both songs and then let me know if you think like I do. I think either one or both could be huge chart toppers for Vince. Big stars remaking old songs from the 80s and 90s is big now (witness Cheney's remake of Back Where I Come From) and I know Vince could take these songs to the top.

Thoughts???

Vince rarely records "cover" songs although he does perform some in concert. Vince says that the box set is going to be all his music and all new material.

I know Vince is not fond of cover tunes, but these songs are taylor made for his voice. It would be nice to see him return to the top of the charts again. I think either of these songs would do it. My suggestion is that Vince start thinking outside the box.

Vince has been in the studio recording a box set of 4 cd's which will include all new and unreleased music by Vince. I think it is going to be a little out of the box for Vince as there will be a few different styles of music other than Country on the cd's in addition to the Country Music we all love. The boxed set is tenatively scheduled to be released in either late summer or early fall. Very exciting stuff ahead!! biggrin.gif

I know that Vince is NOT recording anything on his boxed cd set that he did not either write or co-write himself. I asked him this myself after the panel discussion at the HOF when they opened the Ray Charles exhibit...my question was did he record 'Give Me Jesus' for this cd boxed set and he said 'no, I didn't'...I kind of stomped my foot and said 'well shoot', and he said, 'but let me tell you why'...and he proceeded to tell me that he wanted this entire project to be songs that he wrote or co-wrote...but, he said not to worry, that he planned to record 'Give Me Jesus' one of these days...so, it's entirely possible that he will make an album of other songs someday...I told him that I was glad that he had thought of recording 'Give Me Jesus' and that alot of his fans would love for him to record it sometime...it just won't be on this project...this will be 4 cds of ALL NEW music..and all Vince's music...

Does that song 'Everything That Glitters' say Everything That Glitters is not gold??? I'm trying to place the song...and that's the only thing that pops into my head at the moment...

Nice ideas, tho...

Yes, it says "everything that glitters, is not gold". Also, the "One Friend" song goes "if I had only one friend left, I'd want it to be you". These were Top 10 hits for Dan Seals in the mid to late 80s. Good songs, but Vince could really dust them off and take them to #1. While I am always glad to see Vince show of his artistic side, I would like to see him mix in some covers every once in a while. I think it could get him more airplay, something he has not had in some time.

Thanks for the additional info on the songs, rusty...I'm pretty sure I remember the 'Everything that glitters' song now...perhaps Vince will do that sometime...after he finishes this 4 cd boxed set...I can't imagine the work he has taken on with this boxed set of all new music..the last I heard there would be around 43 or 44 all new songs on this cd...we already know that he has been working on this project for 9 months...and I won't even venture a guess as to where he is in the process...but I'd be willing to bet he is also producing this project himself...so that's kind of double the work for him...we're all so excited about the new project and can't wait until it is released...

What is it??? October now that we're looking for the new project to be released??? I've personally heard 5 or 6 of the new songs already and they are all wonderful !!! It's gonna be a great collection to have!!! It just can't get here soon enough for most of us...LOL!!!

Oh wow, I'm just in awe in anticipation for the new music! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!

"Everything that Glitters" is one of my favorite Dan Seals songs and I'm sure Vince could do wonders for *both* songs you mention, and maybe one day Vince will decide to do an album of cover songs...I know I definately wouldn't mind if he did, because some of my favorite moments on the Opry are when he performs new songs of his that haven't been released yet, or when he sings other artists songs...I loved hearing him sing "Take Me Home Country Roads" and other cover songs he's done, like Ring of Fire, Today I Started Loving You Again, Your Cheatin' Heart, etc.

I know that Vince usually records music that he has written or co-written but I there are so many songs that I would love to hear him sing. Just to name a few, Love Me Tender, Keeper of the Stars, Love of My Life, and alot of the older songs. Can you imagine Vince coming out and saying, Hello Darlin, and then going into that song!!! Be still my heart...

Deb,
I agree about "Keeper of the Stars". I love that song, and it would be wonderful to hear Vince sing it. There are so many if I thought about it. There is an old movie starring Alan Alda called "Same Time Next Year". The theme song for that movie (sung by Johny Mathis, I think, and a woman, it's a duet) is beautiful. I would love to hear that duet from Vince and Trisha Yearwood, or maybe Martina McBride.

It would be wonderful to see Vince in the charts again, but I think it means more to him if the song is an original that he has had a hand in writing. I admire Vince for not being a slave to to trends.
