Good morning! I am taking a class all this week, which is forcing me to be up at 6 am every day. This morning, as I turned on the radio, I heard "...and then it got to be so many songs in a lot of different styles. He had written a ton of material and decided to put it into categories." and I immediately knew who they were talking about!! It wasn't a phone interview, but the dj (Chuck) just talking about Vince's new project. So, he goes on to say that there will be four cd's, etc, and then says "Mary, I hope you are listening, because we now have the new single!! I know you've been waiting to hear this one!!" Then he says to the girl dj (Lauren) that this song reminds him of something he would have heard at his prom, that it has that type of a feeling. So, they played the song and then Chuck said to Lauren, "And you would give it a ??" and she said about a 70%. She liked the song, it had a good feel to it. Then he said he'd give it a 65%, then said, "no, Mary really likes Vince and she won't like that rating, so I'm giving it an 80%. It reminded me of my prom."
I called in and Chuck answered the phone as "And you would give it ??" to which I replied, "125%!! It's Vince, and it's new!!" He thought that was funny.

I thanked them for taking the time to play new music, especially Vince's music. I told him to just mark me down for a standing request--Vince at the top of the hour, every hour!
They are really great about playing requests at this station. It's a smaller station out of Port Huron, but it's better than the two Detroit stations put together!

That's great, Mary. I've started listening to the Philly station- WXTU - online, since I'm home. Just for the heck of it, On their website, you can see what songs they've played in the last 24 hours- and at 7:20 A.M. this morning there was listed "The Reasons Why"- now, I'm wondering if Vince did a phone interview with them at that time.

Sounds like you are having a lot better luck than me. That was very nice to know even though it's not happening out here. I am still just dumb founded and

Mary Anne,
I want to thank you, thank you, and thank you again. I am in the Lehigh Valley, and usually have on the one good country station I can find. After reading your post I tuned my radio to WXTU. Right after I tuned it in, I heard Vince singing "Shoot Straight From Your Heart", which was great, but just now I ran to the post office, and I turned on the radio. I could tell by the opening melody that it was a Vince song, and it turned out to be The Reasons Why. So, my timing has been great. It made me so anxious for the new boxed set. That is a beautiful song. I'm staying tuned into that station.

Wouldn't you know that I missed it again? I had been online, listening to WXTU, then signed off to go outside to read my book, went across the street to the neighbors for a bit, came back in, went back online, checked what had been played on WXTU and missed hearing the song by less than an hour.

Laura and Shirl, I wrote an e-mail to the program director at the one station where I heard The Reason Why. I ask about the process that is gone through to get a song on the play list. I will be surprised

if I hear back. Will let you know if I do.

That's the same thing I have done in the past, Anna...and surprisingly, most times I receive an email back within a few days...they always have glowing remarks about having met Vince at some time and how they love his music, but then say how their hands are tied as to whether or not they will be able to play any of his new music...I spent some time on the website of one our local stations yesterday...and they have no way to request a song thru email and the last time I tried to call in and request anything, they didn't answer the request line. So, I always end up just sending them an email...the only time they have actually answered the phone, I called in to request NBT, they recorded my request, but cut off the part where I asked for a specific song..and then they played an older Vince tune...I was so angry that they did that!!!

Looks like the Philly station has added "The Reasons Why"- played it again this afternoon(and again I missed it LOL), so anyone within the listening distance of WXTU needs to request it. Are you listening, Trish?

Needless to say,I haven't heard back from the radio station.

That's great news, Mary Anne!!! Hope they continue to play the song and that you catch it soon!!!
Anna...not surprised that you haven't heard back from the radio station...hope you hear something soon...

Yeah Becky and I was even nice. I did send it to the program director's e-mail. Just had to do it. So frustrated .
I think some of it has to do with the video factor too.
My grand daughter took some classes in the media business and she sure learned a lot .
Of course she had forgotten that I had told her some of it because I remembered some of the things Vince had commented on. It was cute when she called to tell me all about it.
I was a good granny and didn't say "I told you that a year ago"

My daughter and I went to a scrapbook convention at the Valley Forge Convention Center yesterday. That is going towards Philadelphia so I knew I would be able to pick up that station on the way. Except for about 20 minutes of Hannah's John Mayer cd, I listened to that station WXTU the entire time. I didn't catch Vince's new song, but they do play a lot more of new and old songs than any other country station I seem to get. So, I'm sticking with them. Hopefully, I'll hear it a lot.

Does anyone know if Vince plans to do a video for his first release? I know he had mentioned that he would be doing like the 'whole 9 yards' with this release, so that includes the videos and concert tour to promote it and hopefully alot of guest appearances on entertainment/night time television as well.
Anna Leighton
Jul 30 2006, 12:26 PM
I wouldn't even guess as to weather Vince will do any videos. The pulling out all stops ,I think, means with all the different types of music and other artist singing with him. I do wish he would do some videos. I would love to see one on Faint of Heart.
Becky
Jul 30 2006, 12:40 PM
Well, these days a single without a video is hardly recognized...even tho we know Vince doesn't necessarily like making videos, I do hope that he will make a few videos for this HUGE project!!! I personally hope that some of the duets will be released as singles and that he will do some videos with his duet partners...
SRobin
Jul 30 2006, 12:43 PM
I agree, a video promoting "Faint of Heart' if done well, could really be a great catalyst for it on CMT especially.
He needs to release SOME videos for this project. Even George Strait who is known for not doing that many videos, have a current one running on CMT. We need to see Vince back on the Tubes with some videos.
Btw, does anyone know if Vince's publicist comes to his site?
Becky
Jul 30 2006, 12:46 PM
Yes, I think that Vince's publicist reads the messages from time to time...she has posted on the boards in the past...given us articles and posted info for us that we might not otherwise know...she's great about doing that for us!!!

Becky, I'm sure Alison picks up certain things on the website to discuss with Vince. You know Vince, he doesn't always think of all the things we necessarily think of that would be good, cuz' he's just a guy. LOL Women tend to think of certain things that men don't even have a clue about. Not trying to be women's libbers or anything, just stating a fact.
Vince, we really would love to see you do some videos. You always complained in the past about doing videos when you were heavy, but you are definitely NOT heavy now. PLEASE do a few videos.

WXTU just played "The Reasons Why" and it was by request- didn't catch the names of the people who requested it though- I really like the song.

Jul 30 2006, 07:10 PM
That's great Mary Anne!!! Glad you go to hear the new single..and I'm so glad that there is A station out there that still listens to people's request!!! Hooray for WXTU !!!
Where did you say this station is, Mary Anne??? Somewhere near Philly???
Mary Anne
Jul 30 2006, 07:15 PM
It is in Philly, but you can listen to it online. We are still without a country station here in the greater NYC area.
Becky
Jul 30 2006, 07:20 PM
I need to check this station out...since I'm getting nowhere with my local stations..as usual...I've been checking the playlist for one of our local stations and they seem to play them same dozen or so artists over and over again. The other one does play more of a variety, including more Vince songs, but unfortunately, they think there are only 3 or 4 older Vince songs that exist...

WXTU is the station that I listened to last year when we went to NJ. The former Program Director for the Miami country station that I used to listen to is now at WXTU...his name is Bob McKay and he a huge Vince fan. When he was at KISS they played a lot of Vince, including Vince's new songs...after he left, fahgetabouit...

Hi everybody- it's been so long since I've checked in, and needless to say I am ECSTATIC to hear Vince has a new single out on the radio!! I didn't think he'd be releasing a song 'til later for some reason. Guess I will definitely need to start listening to the radio again... I sorta gave up on it for the last 6 months or so... so tired of hearing the same artists over and over again. Will let you know if and when I hear Vince's new single here in Northern California. OHHH I am sooooo excited.... !!
(By the way... I've missed you all.)

Mary Redd,You are so lucky to have a DJ who listens to the people who listen to the stations. I don't think that will ever happen here. Still complaining in Az.

Hilary, Girl ,Where have you been ? I am looking for you and Don to get to Vegas .Any plans for that? I am already excited to see all that Hawaiian Shirt group and meet new people. Be there, be square

Hey Anna! I am sooooooo hoping it works out that Don and I (or at least me!!) can get to the Vegas show(s) -- this is killing me!! I've got a new boss at work and we are absolutely swamped... but believe me I am working on it. My Hawaiian shirt still hangs proudly and prominently in my closet...
So excited about the new CD set and the new single and miss you all.

Videos would be wonderful! We live in a "feed the senses" society, so the sight of a video would definitely have more people requesting the songs at the radio. Maybe that would get Vince played more often?!!! Trouble is, I can't see Vince putting half naked butt shakers in his video. Okay, let me re-phrase that....I can't see Vince putting Badonkadonk girls in his video...we know the last butt shaker in Vince's video was when he himself was dressed as a woman, trying on all those clothes while poor Rodney sat and watched.

What fun!!!!!!!

So true, Mary!!! Gotta love Vince's sense of humor in the 'Hard To Kiss' video...LOL!!! But seriously, if the option was a Badonkadonk video or no video, I'd have to pick no video at all.

I don't care for Trace Adkins last video and maybe all of them are going that way. Billy Currington and his beach scene and some others I could mention. Aren't they embarrassed to have their mothers see videos like that?

Aug 30 2006, 07:57 PM
Yep, I agree...I'd rather not have a video than to be embarrassed whenever it's on and there are guys in the room. Mothers, yes that's embarrassing, but I would NOT be an accepting wife of the videos, either. I don't care if they ARE actresses, it's still not the ONLY way to promote the song. And, if it is, don't be the costar to the girls. Just my narrow opinion, and I know that sex sells, so there's a TON of money flowing from those videos now...
