Hey all...just wondering if anyone has seen any really good movies lately? I went to see "The Devil Wears Prada" today. It was cute--not too deep, not too fluffy. I would probably change one or two things, but it was a good way to spend a few hours.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Anyone get a chance to see "You, Me and Dupree"?
gillgrantfan
Tim's new movie comes out in Oct. Flicka is the name of it [hope I spelled right]
Becky
Haven't seen either of those, Mary...and haven't heard abour Flicka either, Cathy...but we did go see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 a few weeks ago and it was great!!! Johnny Depp is a hoot as Captain Jack !!! Bruce & Maegan went to see 'Monster House' in 3D yesterday and Bruce said it was alot better than he was expecting...he thought it was the best use of 3D that he's seen in a very long time...
Anna Leighton
I would see Tim's movie. I missed the other one tim was in but he did get good revues. I think he would do anything well.

I also heard that Toby Keith is doing a movie.

They have to be pretty special for me to actually go. I usually wait until they come on tv
Charlene
I did see "The Ant Bully" on Friday....It was cute...lol....I liked it...Not a bad flick....

I think we might go see You, Me and Dupree this weekend....

There's a movie playing here, just opened called "Bon Cop Bad Cop" Its a canadian movie and looks hystercial..Its about a crime that happened on the Ontario/Quebec border....The one cop is french and the other is english...and omg, the fun that happens there....lol..(Its in english)..I saw this being filmed when I was working on another movie right next door....I don't think its playing in the States, but who knows...But if it comes out on video in your blockbusters international section, you should rent it...Looks great...
Becky
The Ant Bully looks cute...would you recommend that movie for a 10yo, Charlene??? We took Maegan to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 a few weeks ago and she handled it very well...she never gets squeemish and we've never had to take her out of a movie because it was too scary...we just try to pick the movies as carefully as we possibly can...we used to go see the movie if we were unsure, then take Maegan back to see it later...but that got way too expensive...Maegan likes to go see movies as much as we do, so these days, I read the reviews and watch the movie trailers, look at the movie rating and try to get ideas from other people as to whether or not it's a good 'kid movie' or not...
Charlene
I bet she'll love it....Mine liked it....It was a good story for kids...

My 13 yr old looked at me on the way home....She says....lol.....Man, all those ants I have killed...as she shakes her head with a guilty grin..then we giggled...You'll understand when you see the movie....lol....
Becky
Thanks Charlene...I appreciate your opinions...hopefully, we'll be able to take Maegan to see it in the next few weeks...the previews really look cute!!!

Becky, The Any Bully is based on a kid's picture book, so it should be okay. I don't want to go see it, because I didn't like the book. Dumb, I know, but I just have no desire because I didn't like the book...

I also saw Pirates 2, and although I didn't see the first one, really enjoyed the story. It was easy enough to figure out what was happening, and Johnny Depp was very funny!! I will rent Pirates 1 now, and look forward to Pirates 3 (I think it's currently being filmed, but not out for another year or so?).

I watched Friday Night Lights the other day on dvd. I don't buy many, but I did buy that one. The "scruffy" Tim still shocks me!! And, I still wonder--is that stunt chest hair on him?????! He's also not shy about showing his lack of hair...great movie, good ending, and probably closer to reality than I'd like to think it is. Sports over education has always really bothered me. Anyway, I'm sure Flicka will be a good movie, too.
Becky
Thanks Mary..sounds like we shouldn't need to worry about taking Maegan to see The Ant Bully...between your info and Charlene's, I feel comfortable taking her to see that one...if we get around to it!!!

I think we watched Pirates 1 on one of the movie channels, but I can't remember now what the story was about...they are going to do 3 Pirates movies in all...Bruce had read somewhere that Johnny Depp had them put his gold teeth on permanently until all 3 movies are finished...he said it was just easier to have that done than for them to stick them on and pull them back off all the time!!! Guess it helps to keep him in character too!!!

I haven't seen 'Friday Night Lights' yet...am waiting til it comes on one of the movie channels...but I hear there will be a tv series by the same name that will start this fall...starring Kyle Chandler...you might remember him has Gary Hobson in 'Early Edition' or Bruce Baxter in the last King Kong movie..oh, almost forgot..he was the fireman that got blown up by the bomb on Grey's Anatomy as well...I've always liked Kyle Chandler and although I don't usually care for sports movies or tv series, I will have a look at this tv series just because I like Kyle Chandler...!!!

Didn't they have some kind of accident on the set of 'Flicka' some time back??? I guess I'll have to check out this movie...have always like movies about horses, like Black Beauty and Flicka...

...and Kyle Chandler was on one of my favorite shows, Homefront. I LOVED that show!! Forgotten most of the story line now, but at the time it was a "must see" with my then-roommates. We scheduled our week around that show! He is such a cutie, and a wonderful actor. I was reading the blog of the writer for Grey's Anatomy, and she was saying they can't bring him back (same for Denny Duquette sad.gif ) but she gets a LOT of requests for both characters to return. By the way, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Denny) is filming a new series--by the same writers as Grey's Anatomy!!! So, even though he won't be "Denny" we'll still get to see him!! I have NO idea what the show will be about....but if he's in it, I'm watching it!!

I thought Pirates of the Carribean was really good. Johnny Depp really does a great job with that role. I thought the creatures in that movie were a bit creepy. Hannah and I want to see The Ant Bully. It's funny what your daughter said Charlene. Hannah said pretty much the same thing and we haven't seen the movie, but she said it kind of makes you look at a bug a little differently. There is a movie coming out with Kevin Costner, and he is in the Coast Guard (I think), and has the record for the most rescues. I've seen the previews twice, and that looks good.

Speaking of Grey's Anatomy is our blond Izzy going to still be in it??? They were firing her on last episode. ohmy.gif
Charlene
I saw "The Devil Wear's Prada" last night and ya know what I loved it....Meryl Streep's character was great, once again she did not miss her calling, at all!!!!....Anne Hathaway was great and so was Stanley Tucci, I have always liked him....(Shall We Dance, Maid in Manhatten)

The movie might not have substance, but if your superficielle this ones for you....lol.... tongue.gif

I appreciate the superficielle person/lifestyle, most of the time....... biggrin.gif But that wardrobe budget must have been huge....the clothes were great....

I am so sick of seeing cartoons...I'm done with those for awhile..lol...

This was a good relief...But I do occasionally like a light, simple story line....Not every movie has to be complicated....lol...
Becky
I agree, Charlene...I like the light, uncomplicated story lines...give me a sweet and sappy love story and I'm happy!!! For the most part, if the critics love a movie, I'm guaranteed not to like it...I think of movies as entertainment and wish that the critics could say something good about the movies that don't set out to 'teach or preach'...

A few movies I have watched on the movie channels lately that I loved were 'Finding Neverland' and 'Cinderella Man'...I loved them both!!! Again with Johnny Depp..LOL!!! I think he's kind of a strange chap, when I've seen him interviewed, but he's a really great actor!!! And Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger were really good in Cinderella Man!!!
Mary Redd
Charlene, I totally agree! Sometimes I don't want to have to THINK while I'm watching the movie, and this was one of those. I liked the movie a lot--kind of along the lines of Pretty Woman, minus the love!

The preview to the Costner movie looks great, but I think I'll have to wait for that one to come out on disk. I don't know if I could handle the water/underwater/terror type scenes they show...not on the big screen, anyway! We'll see, maybe I'll try it when it comes along.

Johnny Depp is a bit quirky, isn't he? I thought the characters were done SO WELL in that movie--the costume creatures were fantastic. I would have been a bit scared as a kid, I think, but they are very well done!!! Those "wormy things" in the beard were wild!!

And, yes, Izzy will be back!!!!!!! Not sure how, but the writer hinted that there will also be some "flashback" type things about the bomb, and we'd learn more about McDreamy and his wife. Can't wait!! By the way, season 2 will be out on DVD in September. I'll be there to buy it!!
Charlene
Your so right Becky, If a movie is not an Oscar Contender...then we know what happens....I think critics go to a movie and have this belief, If I am not completely mezmerized, I will whip me scarf around me neck and be off!!!!!

That is the reason I loveeeeeeeeeeee watching Johnny Depp on the screen....He is very versitile and does not adhere himself to certain genre...Like most actors.....He took a gamble on being himself and it worked...Besides he wears it well....Mary, I agree, I beleive Pirates will actually be a classic in many years...

Hmm I will have to rent Cinderella Man, I haven't seen it yet....

Be very careful of "The Libertine" its not suitable for everyone..I usually don't sensor much from my kids....But this one, ummmm yeah....lol......Its with Johnny and its very strange...I endured it and it was fine for me...

Thats another thing, I beleive Canada is more open minded in their rating system....Almost every movie here is Rated G....lol...I kid you not or PG13...I very rarely see a R rated here...

Ok one more last thing, If you want to see a sappy, love, cry me a river movie, You have to rent "If Only" it didn't do well and I can't see why not...I cried a few times and I loved the movie...Starring Jennifer Love Hewett...
grissy74
Mary, I'm a little bit hesitant about the underwater terror scenes in the new Kevin Costner movie also. I don't do well watching people struggle underwater, but Kevin Costner! biggrin.gif So, hopefully, I'll be able to see it, but maybe not.
Mary Redd
Maybe we should go together!! I guess I'm just wondering how much of the movie is the "struggle" underwater part. It looks to be a fairly pivitol part of the movie, so it could be lengthy. Guess I'll have to decide when the time comes along...but Kevin Costner definitely makes me want to see the movie!!
grissy74
Mary,
Sounds good. Kevin Costner is definitely a big plus, but is he going to balance the scenes that will make me feel like I can't breathe? unsure.gif
Charlene
Hmmm lets see....lol....I have seen 2 movies in the past 2 nights....

First I saw ...Me, You & Dupree...It was an ok movie for me...Some funny parts...My husband liked it and thought it was great...Must be a guy thing....No pun intended on my husbands name....lol.... dry.gif but not that its pronounced the same way....ok focus charlene, focus....So it was ok...

But tonight I saw "Bon Cop Bad Cop" this is the second time I saw this movie this week...I loved it....Sorry its Canadian....So far I think its in Quebec only then the rest of Canada soon, I think....I mean this movie is hysterical...Its about 2 cops, one from Montreal and the other from Ontario...Ok French meets English....the humour between the 2 languages and personalities of the French and English are great....My husband is all french and well me, English....So we both get it...I mean the people from Ontario and Montreal will understand...Its a funny show to be seen...We laughed all the time...Hopefully the rest of Canada will see it soon...But it was a good murder, action, drama movie...Its in English but when they speak french they have subtitles for the french impaired....lol...Plus its getting great reviews and now they are saying its the most money making film yet to date for the Quebecois....So if any of you can get this film when its released onto DVD, you should...Its a good one...

Isn't that the whole charm of Kevin Costner----making us girls feel like we can't breathe!??? tongue.gif It's just a different "not able to breathe" than the underwater scenes!! Haha!!
Anna Leighton
I would not mind struggling with Kevin smile.gif but I have a very healty respect for water. Had a couple of close calls.I like Kevin a lot. There is an old movie with him and I think Gene Hackman..............No Way Out ,it's a good one to keep you in suspense .I haven't heard about a new one. But I don't go out to movies much.
