Two country editions of the Ultimate Grammy Collection arrived in stores Tuesday (Jan. 8). Released by the Shout! Factory label in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Grammy Awards, the classic country and contemporary country compilations are part of a seven-CD series highlighting Grammy winners from four genres. The classic country version features Roger Miller, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and others while the contemporary country CD includes Vince Gill, the Judds and Carrie Underwood. ... Other CDs arriving Tuesday include The Best of the Johnny Cash TV Show (Legacy Recordings) featuring performances from his TV show that ran from 1969 until 1971. In addition to Cash, it also features songs by Waylon Jennings, Roy Orbison, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Derek & the Dominos and several others. ... Rounder Records released two all-new albums -- Rhonda Vincent's Good Thing Going and New Orleans-based fiddler Amanda Shaw's Pretty Runs Out -- along with IIIrd Tyme Out's compilation, Footprints: A IIIrd Tyme Out Collection.

The Contemporary Country CD with Vince on it has "When I Call Your Name". It's actually the 1st track on the CD. I saw it the other day on the Amazon website.

I wonder if it's actual live Grammy performances on the CD or if it's just album tracks taken off the various albums and put on the CD...

BTW, heard on the news tonight that the Grammy show may be in trouble because of the writer's strike!

Val, I saw a story about that on the TV Guide website. I'm thinking it depends whether the writers are going to picket the show. If they do, I wonder if anybody will cross the picket line.

Cry me a river for these writers. These guys are STILL making money while they are on strike! They recieve compensation everytime one of their shows is played. Think about what are the hottest shows on TV. Game shows & reality shows. They are all over the place. What kind of writers does it take to write for those shows? So what does that say about the quality of the writers when those types of shows are so plentiful? It's hard for me to feel sorry for the upper tier people in the TV/Movie industry. They can afford to strike. It's the regular guy workers that the writers are putting out of work that get hit the hardest. If you ever saw what is spent on a movie as far as expenses are concerned then you would laugh when the "Hollywood people" start asking for tax breaks & more money. GET BACK TO WORK!!!!!!! Why do you need writers for a MUSIC AWARDS SHOW? Have the nominees play live. Read the nominees. Give out the awards. Very simple!

Reggie,

I agree 100%! The reason the writers are striking is silly, imo. All they want is more money when they're already making millions as it is! And it's not even like the TV shows that aren't reality shows are getting any better. After all, look at how 'original' the writers are when the only ideas they can come up with are 'oh, lets add another CSI or Law & Order franchise to the mix'. IMO, one of the best, most original shows on TV in the last few years has been Lost...I'm anxiously waiting for Jan. 31 to get here for the season premier of the show! This past TV season, I don't think I found one new non-reality TV show that I really actually liked!

With this whole writers strike, about the only people I feel sorry for is us, the viewers, who are now going to have to suffer thru months and months and months of repeats if a show isn't a reality/game show. 4 months of repeats in the summer is bad enough, but now we're going to have an even longer summer season if this thing doesn't get over with soon!

As for the Grammy's, one thing I read said that the SGA wants singers with acting intentions to boycott the show.

Maybe people will realize that there is much more out there than watching some crappy TV shows. Reading, spending time with your family, listening to music & going to see some live music. I went out last night & saw some great music for $15. The music I saw included drumming by Kenny Aronoff who is a session ace & one of the greatest & most sought after drummers in the world!
