Well, my husband had one hip replaced last week and it is like having a new baby almost - can't leave him unattended very long at all - there are so many restrictions - can't bend and needs help moving that leg up or down and help getting into shower and all those pesky everyday things we all take for granted. But he came thru great and got out of hospital on 3rd day after surgery and I am so glad to have him home - it was 70 mile round trip every day to go spend with him at hospital and my kitty had just come back from vet hospital so she wasn't very happy to be alone so much but would come sleep at foot of my bed at night and let me know she was there. She goes and lays down on bed near my husband now like she knows he hurts.

Thanks Anna, every day is better and he can do more for himself. The rehab people come to the house every week for a month and that is a change from when I had my knee replaced - I had to bend it and get in and out of car and go out for rehab for months but at least I can bend my knee almost as much as nonsurgical one and lots of folks can't after knee replacement. Of course it makes going thru the airports a real hassle - now my husband can be pulled out of line along with me to stand spread eagle while they pat you down and pretty roughly at times and feel you up and swat your crotch! But, all "old" people seem to be pulled out for various inplanted devices so we slow up the security lines.

Oh Freida, I'm so happy your hubby is getting along well, but I'm sorry you're having to be nursemaid - it can get quite tedious and nerve wracking at times, but you hang in there. Isn't it great that Rehab comes to you!

I'll send up a prayer for you and hubby tonight.

Frieda, I'm so glad your husband is coming along good You both have my prayers. you take care it seems its always harder on the giver. I know.

Thanks for your prayers and sweet words! Every day gets a little better and he can move without obvious pain now and the incision is less "raw" looking. He just has to remember not to bend or do anything that would pop the hip out of joint before it has grown together. We saw a poor lady at the airport not so long ago that did just that - bent over and popped her replaced hip out and was screaming for people to call 911 which they did and moved her out pretty fast. Guess it takes 6 weeks to heal enough to be slightly more mobile but must take care for 3 months. Thanks all of you again.

Freida,

12 years ago my grandmother fell and broke her hip and had to have it replaced...after the surgery she went into a rehab center for several weeks, and that was really the best option, because they knew how to take care of her and they could give her rehab and everything she needed in there. She was there for a couple months...I think she went in in Sept. and she was home by Thanksgiving.

The very best to you and husband on his rehab. I went through with my husband having both his knees replaced last year and that was really alot of rehab too. He is great now and wishes he had not waited so long to have it done. Sure just love those "Golden Years".
Again know it takes time and patience and wish him the very best.

Thanks all of you. It's gotten to be pretty routine now - I know what to scurry around to do each day at what time, etc. Very time consuming. I'm going to escape next week for a couple of hours and go get pampered at beauty salon and nail place - they really do a nice job massaging your tired feet! laugh.gif

Freida , Go for it girl . I am a hairdresser and know how those tired feet feel when they get massaged smile.gif . Glad to hear things are going well .

Thanks again guys! Sorry you Brett fans are disappointed tonight but Eli really worked hard and sometimes we just have to move over and make room for the younger players to get their chance in the sun. They showed Eli's dad but didn't see his big brother but he must have been there also.

Things are going great. His physical therapist wanted to add new exercises this last week but doc said no - has to wait a while. He is getting around good - just not ready to fold into a car seat yet which I'm glad for. Looking forward to the big Super Bowl. Nice to have good TV when you are laid up. We do get a lot of sports on Dish Network and he entertains himself that way. He's doing so much better I even got around to making sour dough bread today. Thanks again all you guys for the support.
