LONDON (Feb. 7) - Soul singer Amy Winehouse has been questioned by British police over an allegation of drug possession, further raising doubts about her planned appearance at the U.S. Grammy Awards, where she is among the most nominated artists.

A police source said Wednesday that the 24-year-old performer, who entered a clinic last month for treatment of her highly publicized drug addiction, was interviewed but not arrested.

That would be the smart thing to do, making all sides happy, but when did these award shows ever do the smart thing? It will be interesting to see what they do if she doesn't show up.

It looks official now. I just saw this over at the TV Guide website:

Winehouse Won't Be Going to Grammys: Visa Denied

Despite initial reports that Amy Winehouse might be attending the Grammy Awards on Sunday, her visa has been denied, People says. While a U.S. visa was first denied in January, a recent meeting at the U.S. Embassy in London suggested that she might be able to attend the event.

In a statement, Winehouse's rep said that "Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic... and although disappointed with the decision, has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery."

The artist, who has six nominations this year, would have been sharing the spotlight with Kanye West (never an easy feat, anyway), who has eight noms. Was this a fair call by the embassy? Or an unfair stroke of bad luck? — Anna Dimond
