20 Miles from the Gulf of Mexico - my residence is between Galveston and Houston Texas. Born and raised here.

And Pam: YES our beaches are dirty ---- sorry - I should have told you! It's like the Gulf of Mexico along the Texas - Louisiana borders are the "catch all trash" bowl for the beautiful beaches found in Mexico and Florida. We are the culdesac (sp) in the water!!! Trash builds up here and parks itself! When you look at maps, you can see this for yourself. The trash finds a place to rest --- dang it. Sometimes the water is pretty --- but not often. I certainly don't like the beach. Haven't been probably is over 25 years! Sad, huh!!

I'm in Michigan, due north of Detroit about thirty miles. This sounds scary, but it isn't!! The town I live in is very rural, with lots of farms and orchards, but close enough to the "big city" events to make everything convenient. The town that I teach in is about 10 miles northeast of here, and it's so small there is still a four way stop in the middle of the "town"...still no McDonald's there!!

No MacDonalds???????????Unreal. Got a Burger King.Like them better.

Mary are you familiar with Brighton? One of my very best friends lives there and has lived in Bloomfield Hills and Rochester. It's nice where she lives too. She took me around to show me where she grew up etc.

Oh well, we had fun anyway I remember the gulf being really pretty when I was here in Texas last year, but I was closer to Sabine Pass, and actually thought it would have been gross since Rita and Katrina had been there first

Well, what is everyone doing for their holiday weekend? I'm biting the bullet and getting my hair done with a beautician I don't know, hope the color somewhat matches! Other than that, no plans!

LOL - after I said I hate the beach ---- well, I'm spending the holiday at a Condo on Galveston beach! Ironic, huh! My daughter's M-I-L is turning 50, and about 50-100 people will be staying in Galveston to celebrate her birthday. Friends and family from all over the state of Texas will be there. This should be fun. I have never been in the beach water with my two grand-daughters yet! They are ages 6 and 3! I don't really want them in the beach. We have a pool, so they swim there, instead.

I was born and raised in Coudersport, PA (north/central PA) Moved to Canandaigua, NY--Finger Lakes Region 26 years ago. We plan on moving to South Carolina in the next year or two.
