My grandmother's biopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow morning...we have to be there at 9am. They're doing it in the OR in case there are any complications...he said that the lymphnode under the arm is real close to an artery...they're going to try and do it under a local anesthetic. Then it's just waiting for the results. He did say that she has a large tumor in one lung and a smaller tumor in the other, and that's the reason she's having trouble breathing, along with the fluid in her lungs from the infection. This hospital doesn't have an oncologist on staff, so she'll have to go to the other hospital in town, Scott & White. Cathy, you may have heard of it, since you used to work at a hospital and you're in Galveston.

Val,
I will be keeping your grandmother in my thoughts and prayers. It is too bad she will have to go to a different hospital to see an oncologist. Please let us know how things are going.

Thanks, Laura...she can use all the prayers she can get. I'll definately keep you guys updated. She sounds a little better today than she did yesterday...there were too many people here yesterday, including my 2 nieces who are 5 1/2 and 1.

They took her in to pre-op just after 11am this morning, and she was in surgery by noon. They gave her a local anesthetic because she didn't want to be put to sleep, and he was more comfortable giving her a local because of her breathing problems. He took the lymph node out of her neck, instead of under the arm like he had planned, because the one in the neck wasn't as deep. She was out of recovery by 1, and she was home shortly after 2. She said that it did hurt and she did tell him, but I guess it was over and done with so fast that it wasn't worth giving her anymore anesthesia. She has a dr's appointment with him again on Friday...guess we'll find out the results then, and they're also going to get her an appointment with an oncologist at the other hospital here in town, Scott & White.

Thanks, Mary Lou. I just wish I could get her to eat more than what she does. Cathy gave me a suggestion...Ensure. I think we'll have to get some of that for her, but tonight I'm hoping she'll eat some ice cream...at least that has some calories in it.

She did eat quite a bit of ice cream tonight, so I was happy about that. And in fact, she even sounded a little better afterwards. If she doesn't eat enough calories she's going to get so weak she won't even be able to get up out of her recliner, which she actually had trouble doing about an hour ago.

I know when my stepfather was quite sick, and bedridden, Ensure was something we could get him to drink. We knew he was getting some nutrients that way.

I got her to eat half a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch, but she didn't eat all the cheese...she did eat the ham, though, and she had 1/2 cup of hot tea. Talked to the dr's office this morning...my mom called to find out of they had scheduled an appointment with the oncologist at Scott & White...well, the dr's office wrote down my mom's phone number wrong, so they called here, and I asked...said that S&W wants pathology reports back first before they'll schedule an appointment for her, so the office put a rush on the results and they'll be back this afternoon, and they'll be able to let us know tomorrow when the S&W appointment is, which she said will be sometime this week (now I don't know if she actually meant *this* week that we're still in, or early next week.)

Thanks, Nina.
I'll keep you in my prayers also. I'm waiting on tests to see if I have an ulcer or if it's gall bladder - finally got meds to make tummy quit aching night and day and that helps. Its gradually gotten worse the last few weeks and my hubby made me go in to doctor this morning. Not my favorite thing to do!

My grandmother also has an aching and upset stomach right now and she won't eat hardly anything. She's getting so weak and tired that she doesn't even want to get up from her recliner. When she was getting into bed, I told her to schooch herself up towards her pillows and she could barely do that...I did try and lift her up some, but considering I'm not much bigger than her, it's hard...and now my left shoulder aches a little...I'm thinking I strained it trying to help her up.
