"The Reason Why" is at #40(up from #44) on the new "Counnry Aircheck" chart that Lon Helton has started. This is the chart that uses the information collected by Mediabase- the company that monitors actual airplay. It should move up on the R&R and Billboard chart as well- will know that later in the week.

I think Amber owes us that story since that chart is from last week!!
Mary Anne
It's actually the Sept. 11 chart, but technically she does owe us the story since she said "top 40" by Sept 11.
bestamaw
Oh Amber -- it's storytime!
Anna Leighton
Come on Amber cough it up biggrin.gif
VGsMyIdol
LOL, I saw that post she placed. I am curious to hear the story too! biggrin.gif
Becky
Me too!!! Bring it on, Amber!!!
cbjones001
That's great if it goes from 50 to close to 40 this week - makes me so happy!
Anna Leighton
Sure am trying to get this song played out here. I am very frustrated. I wrote to another station ,Real Country,WSKG,Phoenix,Wickenberg,Az. The DJ answered and referred me to the midday lady DJ.I sent her and e-mail and it was returned. I have the number to call and it's the same old story.
I am seriously considering starting a petition at work and asking everyone that comes into the salon to sign it and send it to the radio stations.
cbjones001
R&R Charts: The Reason Why did take a pretty good jump up to # 45 (up 5 from # 50) after 7 weeks on the chart....- so let's hope we see "Top 40" next week!

I sure hope they have a video up their sleave for say release in late September or early/mid October (coincide with the CMT/Alison event?)....or maybe use the live concert for a live video (since Alison sings backing on "The Reason Why")....
biggrin.gif
Charlie
Becky
What a great idea, Charlie!!! I would love to see a Vince/Alison video from the CMT taping for this song...I would love to see any new video on CMT/GAC from Vince!!!
JBC
I don't know why there hasn't been a video out yet. I really don't know what they are waiting for. But at least the song is going up. For a while there it couldn't get out of the 50's. It really needs to get into the 30's then it will be played on the countdown shows and more stations will play it.

Do you really think videos help a song move up a chart that much? I don't have either CMT or GAC, but it seems like from what I've heard, CMT shows +a lot fewer videos than in the past. Just curious to know how many of the songs, say in the top 20, have videos. Is there one for "Building Bridges", "Brand New Girlfriend", or "Leave the Pieces"?- those are just a few songs that I know are in the top 10.

Probably not. Maybe a bit. But radio will play what it wants.

However, a video in heavy rotation on CMT/GAC can only help with exposure and hopefully get "casual" fans to buy the new CD.
How much it helps I suppose depends on what "chord" it strikes with those "casual" fans....do they rush out and buy or not. I don't know. I would hope so. smile.gif

Mary Anne,

All three songs do have videos...since I don't have CMT or GAC either, I looked at each artist's website to see if they had a video listed for viewing, and each artist's website does have the video that you can watch. I also know that Josh Turner's song "Would You Go With Me" has a video. I belong to his I-squad and have been requesting the video thru the I-Squad, even though I don't have GAC.
Becky
Yeah Mary Anne...things today are such a visual world. I think it does help a song to do better if there is a video out there with it. Alot of people that do have CMT/GAC will watch the videos when they are not listening to the radio. Before we got XM radio, I know that I watched GAC ALOT of the time in the house...even when I never thought of turning on the radio or listening online to a radio website.
JBC
Some people can get away with not doing videos, those people who are on the "A" list of the radio stations that get played no matter what they put out. Right now Vince needs everything he can do to get his songs played, every little thing will help. It's like pulling teeth to get these radio stations to play his songs. Plus the fact today is a picture/visual world. If people can't see photo or video they don't believe it.

Joan
Anna Leighton
I difinitely think that videos (in todays world) helps an artist. I also enjoy watching them. I do agree with Joan though. Some people wouldn't have to do anything to get air play.

Week ending Sept 18th: Not good news: On R&R chart "The Reason Why" goes up only 1 this week to # 44 (after 8 weeks). Also, it loses it's "pink" color which I think means it no longer had an increase in plays....so went up one but no increase in airplay. Not a happy camper here.

(Side note: Congrats to George Straigt for the new number 1 "Give It Away" - must be like his 55th #1 single - amazing. MCA moved up his release date by 3 weeks to now comw out 2 weeks before Vince probably because this single has gone to the top so fast)

Building Bridges did move up 1 to #4 (with a bullet) - so maybe that will top the charts too!

As far as Reason Why - not sure if it's "done" but next week should be the real test (if it's up or down for good)....Let's hope it has life yet.

Charlie

Charlie,Doesn't that just drive you crazy ? It does me. That song is so worth air play. It can be explained to me til you know what freezes over and I just can not stand it . mad.gif
cbjones001
Yes - seems unfair -You'd think radio would at least play the debut single from Vince considering it's from a new 4 CD set (first new music in like 3 years). Vince deserve at least a chance with his stature etc.

But, no one ever said life was fair....tons of artists get relegated to the bottom of the charts or get no airplay at all - play lists are so small and so tight and seems to only have room for the "hot" hip artists of the moment.

Some artists at the "top" of the charts could sneeze on record and I honestly believe it would go "Top 10" smile.gif

Oh well, what goes around comes around. No one stays on top forever (well George Strait seems to so far after 26 years! smile.gif )

That said - radio can go to $#%^ .....I don't need radio!

Soon we will have 4 new CDs to play over and over and over smile.gif

Take Care,
Charlie

VGsMyIdol
I'm sad now. I was hoping it'd keep going up. sad.gif
Mary Anne
I wouldn't worry about it yet- it contineus to gain in spins and move up on the "other" charts.

I hope so Mary Anne....thanks for being the optimist....just seems like it is losing steam and taking FOREVER to go up the charts.

I will try to remain calm and positive. smile.gif

I've been requesting almost every day thru the I-squad! There are two radio stations listed for my area so I've been requesting on both of them.

Good job.

I have not heard it in Portland yet. I have not requested for over a week -so I will do so.
Seems like my requests don't do much (deaf ears??). They will either decide to play it or not via their own methods....but does not hurt for me to try.

I still think it needs to start moving up the charts soon - in an effort to help increase sales for the CD set....Oct 17 is not that far away (less than 4 weeks)!

It would be helpful if the single was getting played - moving into the Top 20 etc as the CD came out - We can only hope smile.gif

I don't know exactly how much good it's doing by requesting it, but figure that it can't hurt. I have heard it on the one radio station that I listen to the most (the biggest station), but haven't heard it on the others. I can pick up at least 3 stations here that I know of, but there's only 2 listed for me to request to.

If it makes anybody feel better, I heard The Reason Why two times today... and once yesterday -- and it was the only time I turned the radio on! It sounds soooooo good on the radio... biggrin.gif

Makes me feel much better to know the song is getting played on many stations but I still can't hear it out hear. That does not make me feel better. Happy for Hilary though .
Mary Anne
"The Reason Why"moves up two spots to #34 on the All About Country chart.
countrycrazy
Was listening to Country's Top 40 Countdown and the song was #40...but that was from the chart a week or two ago...
Anna Leighton
I'm just happy to know it's getting air play some where. I am still very frustrated about the stations out here. I've done eveything but show up in person .
Mary Anne
It's at #38 (up from #40) on the newest Mediabase chart.
Anna, KNIX(?) in Phoeniz has been playing it- at least in the past week according to the information I found.
cbjones001
Weird Chart listing on R&R this week....
(Week Ending 9/25/2006)
It shows Vince still at # 44 for the week (same as last week)...
However it also says "Most Increased Audience, Most Added, Breaker"
And also says "NEW" (where weeks on chart and previous countdown position is usually listed)....There are several other singles (Lee Ann Womack) that say the same thing....

I hope it is accurate - but you'd think it would go higher than last week if this was the case....

Here in Western KY, i hear it on the radio several times a day, on 2 different stations.
Mary Anne
According to what the bottom of the chart says, "Most Added" means the song has been detected on being played at least 6 times on a certain percentage of the total station for the first time. You can go to "song activity" to see what stations are playing the single and how many times they have played it this week, last week and "total". " It is being played on 85 statons- 75 of which have it in "light rotation" and 8 that have it in medium rotation.

So seems like a good thing...just wish it would start to move up more on a more consistent basis...# 44 after 9 weeks.
We need the momentum to pick up!
At this rate it will be #1 in October of NEXT YEAR! smile.gif

Frnakly, I don't put too much "stock" into the Billboard/R&R chart( basically it is the same chart now that they are both owned by one company. I don't really think it is a reflection of true "airplay". The Mediabase chart(the one Lon Helton has started) is more reflective of actual airplay. Since Lon is so well respected in the Nashville music industry, the chart is becoming an "important" one. By the way, R&R used to rely solely on the informtion provided them by Mediabase.
Anna Leighton
Guess I had better start listening more to KNIX. I just can barely deal with the morning DJ'S at that station but I suppose if anyone is playing it there it would be the morning ones or late night. I can stand it if I hear the song . I change from KMLE Country for awhile and see if I can hear it . Thanks Mary Anne .

I'm *really* surprised that Lon is still hosting CCUSA and they're still using the R&R charts for the show. I'd think that Lon would either leave the show (he probably still has time on his contract) or the show would use his new chart for the countdown.

Thanks Mary Anne - I found that "Media Base" online and it had Vince at # 40....

I always thought "Billboard" was the main one everyone respected the most for all charts....with R&R coming in "second"...
Now there is this media base... biggrin.gif

I just hope Vince continues to head "north" on all 3 charts.

Billboard is good if you want to track Album/Single Sales, but not so good for airplay. The record companies use Billboard to keep track of sales, but I think they also have direct access to the Soundscan numbers so they can track the actual numbers rather than rely BB...if I remember right, it was a seperate computer system all together that they used to access the numbers. I remember the employees at WEA accessing it a few times when I was an intern there.
cbjones001
I guess as I look at media base chart - what bothers me is George Strait "It Just Comes Natural" is # 41 and Vince is # 40 with his latest single after 9 or 10 weeks out.... I don't think George has even released a second single as "Give it Away" is now #1 for the second week....Nothing against George.

I just wish "country" radio would give Vince more spins and a chance.

It just makes me a tad, well you know!!!

Charlie
Anna Leighton
Got you Charlie. Totally understand. I love George Strait ,however they crank them out like crazy. I also love Alan Jackson. They record so many records in a year and most do videos.

Vince does what he wants but it'd be great to get him another #1 . This new set,I am telling you all,My prediction is this. This project is going to be an award winner and if it isn't there is something seriously wrong with how the selections and voting goes on.
cbjones001
Amazon.com lists it's sales rank for each item (hourly)....I track where Vince ranks daily and write it down each day... (just my own informal tracking).

These Days pre-sales in August averaged about # 1800.
In September it averages a rank of about # 650.
(with the best sales rank at # 235 for a day in late September).
---
Well today I looked - and it is currently at a sales rank of #50!
(As of Oct 1)...That's for ALL genres of music (Tony Bennette's latest is currently # 1)

Very cool.

biggrin.gif Just had to add it is now at # 35
Today is a good day for sales on Amazon for Vince.
Becky
Sounds great, Charlie!!! Thanks for tracking that for us and keeping us informed about it. I think the word is getting out about other places offering pre-orders on the boxed set at better prices. I'm keeping my pre-order with Amazon, but may well order another copy thru fye...to get the poster they are offering...!!!
Anna Leighton
I am absolutely furious with Amazon. mad.gif I went to check on my order and it said that it wouldn't be sent until October 23 rd. ???????????? mad.gif ( I have my cofirmation e-mail) I canceled the order :)MY goodness what is the purpose to pre-order if you don't get it before it goes on to the public. huh.gif

Went to the site that you can get a poster if you order the box set and it wouldn't take my phone number mad.gif . Besides that it was $10.00 less than Amazon. So I got an e-mail from the poster thing and they will look into my ordering (which I couldn't do because of the phone number (required) rolleyes.gif I'll just wait until the release date and go buy it . cool.gif laugh.gif

P.S. I think I am done with Amazon .The last time I ordered through them ,I ordered 3 cds. Trisha Yearwood (The Song Remembers When ) ,Alan Jackson (Here in The Real World) and another I don't remember. Got the A.J. and the other one but not the Trisha Yearwood. What's that about? How long ago A.J. did Here In The Real World????????I think before Trisha did that one cd. I am NOT having a great morning. Plus ,I missed Vince on CBS this morning .sad.gif
Becky
Well, I kind of figured that I would pre-order 2 copies and go buy one on release day also...when NBT came out, I stuck around the music area at Walmart and enticed people to buy it!!! There was one lady that was looking around the country music and didn't seem to know what she wanted to buy, so I showed her Vince's new cd, and asked her if she liked Vince..then when she said 'yes', I picked up a copy and placed it in her hands..she thanked me and walked out of the music section with the cd in hand...LOL!!! Besides, there's nothing like the joy of going to a store and picking up a new Vince cd, is there??? Something about seeing all those copies on the shelves...just makes you want to place a copy in everybody's hands...LOL!!!
