Emily was in a school program last night with her third grade. No other child had a solo part, except for Emily. She sang AMERICAN TEARS. At the end of the song, photos of Derek (my soldier nephew), along with many others were flashed up on the big screen and were honored. It was so cool. The teachers cried, the parents cried, and the Am-Aw cried because Em sang that song so beautiful. I would love for you to hear her. Oh, I hope you guys can cut and past this url to hear this!
Mary Anne - - - - don't you teach this age group? I REALLY want for you to hear her!

That was really beautiful, Cathy. It even looked like a couple of the kids were wiping away tears. I'm now teaching fifth grade homeroom and fifth and sixth grade math.

They were wiping away tears. The veterans in the audience were wiping tears during Emily's solo. It was just so emotional! The teachers were crying, the parents were crying, and YOU KNOW I was crying. She was so poised, and was singing from her heart!

Oh My! That was very moving. I know you must have been bursting with pride, as all the parents and grandparents of all the kids. Emily did an excellent job. That's a lot of words to a song and to be so poised! I hope her (?) Uncle Derek gets to see that. Kay S.

'Cousin' Derek watched the video, along with many other family members this afternoon. They were all moved, especially Derek!
I thought those third graders did a remarkable job during the entire program. It was 'rude' of me to single Emily out above the others, but sometimes Grandmahood takes over!!! ALL of those kids were wonderful! Their voices were so beautiful. They also sang the National Anthem, and Lee Greenwood's "GOD Bless the USA" which was absolutely breath-taking! They were awesome.
Em was the only solo, and she just sang those two versus of AMERICAN TEARS. When the others joined in with her, it was so moving!!! There were veterans in the audience who were crying!!!!! Talk about moving!
On Tuesday - if you have a veteran in your family, or a current military member, please send this to them to 'honor' them. Those kids were singing from their heart, and I KNOW Emily was, you can just see that she was. The veterans and all military should hear this on November 11th.
Thank you in advance if you send them the url to hear the kids honoring them.

Oh Cathy, she was awesome. I had goosebumps just listening to them sing that song. What an awesome song. It sure brought tears to my eyes. I know you're so very proud of her and should be. She has a great little voice. Tell her Ms. Debbie said to keep on practicing and one day she'll get to sing for the Lord.

Tammy and Donna: Thank you so much for your kind words. My goodness it's been a while since we have talked! GLAD you heard my baby! We've been friends since before Emily was born!
Thanks KYVGGAN - yes, lots of words to remember, but they did it!
And Debbie - you KNOW I'm proud! The LORD has already heard her sing AMAZING GRACE, and I'm sure HE was just as proud as Am-Aw!

Her little 5 yr-old sister sings just as well. I can't wait for their duets!!!!

Cathy,
It has taken me awhile to get my eyes clear to type this, because...
I cried my eyes out!!
Not only because Emily's song was so moving...but I cried for the troops that are leaving for the war and the troops that came home, and the troops that died to keep us free.
Sometimes its all pent up and you just have to do that!
My nephew, Danny, is taking his 3rd tour of duty in Iraq. He will leave the second week in Jan. His wife and 2 children are so proud of him as are the rest of our family! Ofcourse, he would rather be home with his family, but he will tell anyone..."We need to be there. Those people NEED us." He tells us all the time how we never get to see all the GOOD being done there; schools, churchs, hospitals, and roads being built. We just hear and see the bad parts on the news.
Danny is a very happy-go-lucky kind of guy and loves to make people laugh. His most favorite thing to do is to play with the kids there and watch them laugh and have a good time and get their minds off the fighting going on around them. He is the most selfless person I know.
We also have another member of our family who has headed off to Afganistan 2 weeks ago. My nephew, Jeremy. He will be there for 13 months. He has a totally different outlook than Danny. He is very bitter after seeing friends killed on his 1st. tour of duty. He says we need to just "get there and get it done and get out." He doesn't see any good where he is. I really worry about him and the other troops with him.
As soon as I get his email address I will send him your Emily and the other kids singing "American Tears." I have already sent it to Danny and his wife.
Like I said...It was very moving and sooooo beautiful! You have every right to be proud of that little girl! I would have loved to be there to see it all! I would have cried with you!

I will be praying for the members of your family as well as the others who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
My son-in-law Brad did a tour in Iraq and he too felt we needed to be there and we didn't get to see the good being done there.
He is now in Fort Bragg NC waiting to come home from his latest tour in Afghanistan - a totally different sense there as your nephew says - they too lost members of their group and he just doesn't see the progress or hope he saw in Iraq. Can't wait for him to be totally home but at least he is on American soil now.

WE ARE ARE ALL SO PROUD OF OUR TROOPS! I pray they can come home safely, and I pray they come home successful! GOD BLESS THEM ALL!
Emily was singing from her heart!!! A teacher was the one to sing the solo at first, until she was standing next to Emily during practice, and she heard her over all the rest of the children. She asked Emily to sing the song for the music teacher, and he laughed and told the teacher, "sorry, you just lost your solo!" She was happy to do so, because she is Emily's homeroom teacher. WE WERE PROUD!!!!!
I hope many veterans and current troops heard that third grade class! I hope you shared with your military families! Emily was VERY honored to have done that solo!! She sang from her little heart!
And, I cried AMERICAN TEARS for sure!!!!!

She was great! All our men and women in uniform need our prayers every day and I do remember them. Such a beautiful girl and such a sweet voice.
