What a great show. Even though Vince had a cold, he sounded great. His voice was a little deeper (at times a lot deeper) but it didn't slow him down at all. The audience was great and really enjoyed the show. He sang several old songs, a few songs from "These Days" and the two new songs, "Bread and Water" and "Heaven" with most songs choices coming from the audience. His stories, as usual were funny and we enjoyed hearing a few new ones. I hope that a lot of fan club members made it (or will make it to one few that are left)to one of the acoustic shows, they are great and very special.
Vince was limping still tonight also, although he didn't seem to be limping as much as he was last week in Chattanooga. Hopefully he will be feeling better before the Christmas tour begins.

Vince is an amazing talent and even more amazing human being. There are some who would not have done this tour under the same circumstances . Anyone seeing him on this tour are very blessed. smile.gif

Hello to all,
I've been lurking around this site for a long time and I hate to be a downer on my first post, but we went to the show in Spartanburg last night, bought tickets the day they went on sale.

I'm not so sure about last night. We've seen Vince a few times and he is truly my favorite country artist and one of my favorite guitarists as well. I own the complete catalogue and a few great bootlegs in addition to all of his work with PPL, in short, everything he has released.

I was surprised he even let this show go on. His voice was in obvious distress, he had no top register at all and the bottom was raspier than Kenny Rogers on a bad night. We go to hear the high lonesome sound, and it never appeared last night. I felt sorry for Vince because I know he has high standards. We worked hard to get there last night, hired the babysitter, got off work early, bought the t-shirt (did not have the blue color yet). Had several good offers to sell our tickets but did not since we had no idea about the "cold".

His band was great and Vince's limited guitar playing (we all thought after intermission he would wail away on a few long solos) was fabulous as always.

His was as charming as ususal and was kind enough to reference the Marshall Tucker Band as well as play "Can't you see" (which was the highlight of the show), but he voice was poor at best.

I love Vince Gill and will continue to buy anything he releases, but this night was not worth it, even if he told great stories and took all requests (yes, he played mine too).

If he offered, I'd take my money back. I know it was near the end of the tour and he is ready to go home, but sometimes you have to cancel a show. The fans will understand. We deserve better than what he gave us last night.

But I still love you and thank you for the great music!!!

Word is that he was far more raspy at some of the Florida shows earlier in the week.

I was there last night and although it was quite obvious he was sick (especially when talking, as he sounded very congested) I thought he was quite the trooper for doing the show. You know, he was in a "no-win" situation last night. He does the show and those who want it to sound just like the record or "note perfect", as you apparently did, are disappointed. If he cancels he probably ticks off even far more people. I think 90+% of the people walking out last night were quite happy with the show they saw (and I have a good idea, as I was standing outside the main door closest to the Krispy Kreme after the show - handing out flyers for the Charlotte Christmas show on December 16th - I heard not a single person say "Man that sucked and I'd sure like my money back" or anything resembling that remark).

I can guarantee you this, if the show had been called off it would not have been rescheduled. This "acoustic evening" tour ends in just a few more shows. It's pretty much certain that he won't be doing a full tour again in this mode for quite awhile. So look at it this way --- would you have rather had no show at all, or the show you saw? I'm guessing you would've voted for the former. But I don't think that your choice would have been the same choice as the great majority of people there last night.

My family and I were at the Spartanburg show last night. While I agree that Vince's voice wasn't his "usual" due to his cold, I was thorougly happy with last night's show and very glad we had the opportunity to experience one of the unique concerts on this acoustic tour. The stories, ad-libs and humorous banter with the audience were all there in classic form, and we enjoyed every minute of it!

blink.gif I can't imagine someone attending the concert last night wanting their money back!! You know, if everytime an artist got a little cold or sounded not exactly perfect and concerts were canceled, there would be very few concerts held. I agree he wasn't 100%, but my gosh, he still played, sang and entertained us for over 2 hours. And, I think more than 99% of us in attendance were very happy ! Actually, I have been to several shows this year already and this audience was one of the most energetic and appreciative ones I have been a part of in a while. Evan Vince commented on it.

Well, got to put my 2 cents worth in here.

I believe that everybody is entitled to their opinions on the board. Pgee was only saying how he/she felt and that's okay. We don't always agree with each other all the time anyway.

BUT, I have to say, no matter how Vince sounds, I consider it a privelege to be at a concert to hear him. I love his humor, stories, etc. just as much as his singing and guitar playing. I don't know about the rest of you, but I could sit and just listen to Vince tell stories all night. He's so funny.

Vince, I hope you are feeling better soon and you take care of yourself. We want to hear much, much, much more music over the years.

To Vince and everybody, have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Overall I'd say folks on this board are very pro Vince which is the way it should be, I'm on a few boards for different groups/artists etc and I alway enjoy stopping here to read up on stuff....

That being said, we like going to show to hear the songs performed in a live setting so that they are NOT note perfect and have a good bit of variety in the length, tempo, extra solos etc etc.

I've seen Vince maybe 10 times in the last ten years so I've got a pretty good feel for what a good show Vince puts on.

I'm all for "it's great to be in the room" with people, I'm star struck just like everybody else, and there is no doubt that Vince is a real charmer and a good story teller (most of which I know or have heard over the years, except for the Marshall Tucker stuff which was great to hear).

Don't mind me, I'm just one person, but we don't just drop $200 bucks (all told) these days and not expect a quality show. I agree that the stories was quality and guitar work was quality (but come on, he played THREE solos longer than 30 bars), and the voice was just not there.

It's OK, I'll get over it. I've been listening to him all day and have him on right now. I love Vince, my wife and I stop and watch him if he's ever on TV or whatever....we're just bummed that he sounded so "off" last night. I really was looking forward to that great tenor voice.

As far as the crowd goes, I thought it was a really old crowd (we're both 45) and we didn't see hardly anyone younger than we were around us (near the front). While you guys say the crowd was appreciative, I've seen much louder crowds for Vince, but Spartanburg is famous for "old timers" shows, sort of like Branson.

Thank goodness for the gals who made Vince laugh.

Now when we see the Eagles in January, they will be note perfect, that's what they are all about, and I wish they would mix it up a bit, like Vince does.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Vincey, take care of the voice for us...

Well, I agree everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I'm posting mine.

My sister-in-law & I attended the show on Thursday night in Spartanburg & while I agree that Vince was "under the weather" with a cold, I soooo admire him for his "the show must go on" attitude!

All performers get sick from time to time, but being the ultimate performer that he is, he kept his end of the deal by doing the best he possibly could. He even thanked everyone for coming out & spending their hard earned money:)

Anyway, I absolutely loved the acoustic show! It was very laid back & casual, which was great! I have been to many of Vince's concerts & have never been dissapointed.

I plan on attending the Charlotte concert with Vince & Amy & I know it will be wonderful as well. I love their Christmas shows!!!! If you never been to one, get on the phone right now & order tickets - it's Great biggrin.gif

I have to reply to this concert also, I went to Spartanburg and drove 2 hours to get there. I have also seen Vince many times. Vince sings better sick than most artist do well. I commend him on his performance and know it was a hard concert to do. I was not one minute disappointed in this show.
I felt the show was very heartfelt and that he commented on many things that were hard for him to comment especially when speaking of his brother. I believe he poured his soul and voice out to us in that concert that night and cannot imagine any one being disappointed in this.

The concert to me was wonderful and came from the heart! You know artists are people just like we are and I am glad Vince is so down to earth.

I was able to go to the Meet & Greet following this show, and I can tell you Vince is a remarkable person. I felt truly blessed to have met him and he took his time with each and every person and talked and commented on the things you spoke with him about. He did not rush anyone and it was just like a person in your family sitting there talking to you.

I have to say for me this was the most heartfelt experience I have ever had at a concert and I commend Vince for doing this show.

Vince you are awesome! I wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for the night of memories. I will cherish that show forever!

A Huge NC Fan,
Donna (tarheelbaby)
