The Tennessean had this to say about the show on Friday:

Americana plays outside the jukebox

Americana Music Association's annual conference runs through Friday at Nashville Convention Center, and for a few days Nashville is focusing on country music's bright but somewhat less popular sibling. On Friday, Elvis Costello, Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Delbert McClinton, Marty Stuart, Vince Gill and other much-lauded performers will be at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium for the fifth annual Americana Honors & Awards.

Doesn't look like this show will be televised - at least not live - but if you have XM Radio they are carrying it on Friday, channel 12, 8 p.m. ET.

Heard Vince tonight on the Americana Awards show being carried on XM Radio and he was so good.

When he first came out heard him strumming his guitar so I had an idea he was going to sing something. He sang "Until I Can Gain Control Again" acoustically, the song Vince sang the night he met Rodney. It was so pretty. I always wanted to hear him sing that song.

After that, Vince started talking about Rodney. He was so funny. He had the audience cracking up. He kept going from talking about all Rodney taught him through the years and then talking about the times he & Rodney spent together, mostly when they had too much to drink. He told the story about how they tried to become "blood brothers".

Vince was just too much. Just reminded me how funny he can be. He can sing so beautiful one moment and then make you laugh your head off the next.

So what was the story Joan ? About Vince and Rodney trying to become "blood brothers" ?

Becky
Thanks for the info on the Americana Awards, Joan...I didn't know they were airing it on xm radio...have any ideas when/if they will re-air it??? Would love to hear it!!!

He sure does have a great sense of humor and no one can deny what a talent he has. I bet everyone was cracking up. Are the XM radio's still pretty expensive?
I just wish they would televise everything Vince is on . Many others too.
JBC
Becky, don't know if they will replay it but if I find out I'll let you know. They seem to replay alot of things so maybe they will.

The story about trying to become "blood brothers" is that one day when they had too much to drink they tried to cut themselves and unite their blood. The way Vince told it, they tried to use the wrong end of the knife.

Thanks Joan!!! I'll be watching for it too...I went to the xm online website and looked at channel 12's line up, but they don't mention re-airing the show...did see the Amy advertisement on 'what's on this week', tho...we plan to record that one for sure...

Becky, don't know if you have done this yet, but if you haven't go on the XM Radio website and sign up for the weekly email newsletter. There's no way to can keep track of all the stations and what they have on each week and the newsletter will give you the highlights for anything different than ordinary for each week. That's the only way I knew they were carrying this show. I never listen to this channel ordinarily but the newsletter had it listed.

There's an article over at the CMT website which mentions Vince gave a stunning performance of Rodney's song. Only a paragraph but glad someone else agreed with me. Also, check out the photos. The second one is of Vince.
