Full Version: who drove back in that storm last nite? Bloomington IL
The Nineteenth Hole > The Nineteenth Hole > The Main Room

Yikes! We opted to drive the three hours home right after the Christmas concert in Bloomington IL last nite due to unruly teenagers left home alone....and boy was that a wild ride! There were unbelievable winds and near white out conditions....I can't imagine how the tour busses faired on the way back to Nashville....and we spotted another driver who also had to be making the same darn trip, license was VINCE GL 1.....hey are you here on the board also? Did you make it home last night or stop somewhere instead?

The concert was really fun....and Christmassy. Vince's voice was awesome, the Christmas music really showcases it. Amy is a wonderful entertainer and she had neat story about the kids....one wants "direction and passion" for Christmas, while Corrina wants "a live fairy". We got to meet Amy before the show as we went to her sound check, and she is so genuinely nice. We met a family who met Vince at their hotel lobby and he signed their guitar, and they also had Amy sign it at the sound check. Some people tried to get Vince to sing the Fruit of the Loom song at the song check, which he declined. That caused Jenny to ask him if he needed any underwear for Christmas. I think Vince said he had enough Fruit of the Looms for life. Jenny's voice is very beautiful also...must be in the genes!

I think my favorite part, aside from spending the day with my husband, was singing carols with Vince and Amy and the band. Best Christmas caroling I'll ever do. That was very inspiring, and made me think about the real meaning of Christmas, which I can lose site of so easily in all the bustlieness of things. Right up there on "list of favorites" I got to hear Vince and Amy's new song that they wrote together, "Heaven" and if I can get myself unchoked up about it, I'll write more about it later. And there was one traditional Christmas song Vince sang in a way only Vince can, in a way that just brings tears to your eyes he does it so well--- that if that was the only song sung that evening, it would have been worth the three hour terrifying drive in the snowstorm. I am thinking it was "Oh Holy Night"....VINCE GL 1 do you remember which one that was?

In Bloomington they had been obviously hit by an ice storm previoulsy, leaving a beautiful shiney (but nasty) thick coating of ice on everything. Vince commented "I like how you flock your trees up here." He also mentioned briefly about our IL Guvner making the news, causing many groans and laughter...ain't IL just grand?

I've never been to one of their Christmas shows before....very impressed and will go to more in the future if I can....

Wow Dawn, you lucky girl - sounds like another fabulous concert!! If Vince and Amy EVER bring their Christmas show to California there are a bunch of us here on the board who will be ecstatic.

So glad you made it home safely -- sounds like a harrowing trip!

Merry Christmas! ~ Hilary

Dawn, it sounds like another fabulous show! When he was in Grand Rapids a few nights prior, he gave a little speech before "Let It Snow", saying that it was a bit TOO much snow in New England, so he'd only ask for ONE snow for us to have a white Christmas. Plus, he said, they didn't want to have to drive to Missouri in Three snows! I hope they made it to where they were going before the three snows hit, because we got a whollop of a storm here on Friday morning, then more (and more and more) since then. Ugh. Definitely a WHITE Christmas here!

It sounds like the set list changed often as far as the "extra" songs they sang. In GR, Vince sang "Give Me Jesus", but not the Heaven song or the Bread and Water song. Soundsl like our man has been busy writing again...new cd???

Merry Christmas everyone!

Dawn, I was at the IL show with some friends but, we decided to stay the night. I'm glad you made it back safely in those conditions. Two friends did head out that night after the show for the Chicago area as well. The next day wasn't the best driving home either esp. once we hit Chicago and north of the Stateline into WI.
It was another wonderful concert from The Gills and I loved having Jenny and Kim add the harmony BGV's and the band was awesome too.
After Amy sang "Breath of Heaven" followed by Vince's "Oh, Holy Night." I wondered what they would followup with and then came the audience caroling, which was very nice.
I just enjoyed listening to their beautiful voices, stories and them watching each other perform. What a nice Christmas gift they bring us with sharing their musical talents.

Okay....now I'm ROTFLMAO 'cause I couldn't figure out BGV. Only thing I could come up with was 'Big Guy Vince.' LOL.

Makes me think of that old lady on the cell phone commercials who says "IDK, my BFF Rose."
