My husband & I had 5th row seats to see Vince in Palm Desert on Sunday, October 11th. We drove out from Los Angeles & stayed in Palm Springs, arriving just in time on Saturday to catch the first half of the Iowa/Michigan game at a local sports bar. We even found some Hawkeyes at the next table (and one Michigan fan - BOO!) On Sunday we took the tram up to the top of the mountain (that was cool), and then a quick bite to eat at Outback just down the street from the venue.
It's always nice to sit next to people who have never seen the artist before! I pointed out all the awards he has won from the brochure in the couple's hand and said "you are in for a treat!"
I saw someone peak out from behind the curtain just before show time wearing a rather loud shirt. Turns out it was Vince because he strolled out on stage wearing this awesome "colorful" shirt! And of course the audience commented on it! Someone wasn't giving up on the shirt and sayin' stuff all night long (if anyone was there, please tell me what this guy said!). Vince finally had to say "dude, you're not funny!" I think they finally shut up.
He said the bus had broken down and they all crammed into the crew bus, which had more people than places to sleep, so nobody had gotten much sleep (and he looked very tired). And he said he was a little grumpy because he missed his golf game that morning because of the bus breakdown! But he dedicated "Look at Us" to his friend Barb who made a hole in one on her birthday no less! I'm sure he was bummed he missed that.
The show was awesome, even though they all were tired and wishing the concert would just be over already so they could all go home! If Vince is this funny after being so tired, imagine what he would be like tired and tipsy??? (LOL) At one point, after telling stories about his Dad, he started to sing and the microphone zapped him. We all heard a huge loud noise & he winced & turned away from the microphone. I'm sure he was cussing under his breath. Jenny was genuinely concerned & I heard her say "are you alright" off mike. So what does Vince do? He walks back up to the mic and says . . . "He's back from the dead! My Dad's back to get me!" and then he said in using his best "Dad" impersination . . . "that'll teach ya" or something to that effect. Funny as hell!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, long story short, a wonderful show all things considered. First time being that close to the stage, loved watching all the guitar work up close & personal . . . and all the musicians were amazing as usual! Can I just say Vince's steel player . . . LOVE YOU DUDE!!!!!!! WOW, amazing stuff! Jenny was amazing on backup vocals and I loved the two songs she came out & did with her Dad! Ah that family harmony!!!! SWEET!!!! Oh, and we were blinded when she flashed her ring and was talking about how she was going to start planning a wedding when she gets home! WOO HOO! CONGRATS!
Can't wait 'til my next Vince fix! Will never get enough of that voice! Oh . . . and stupid me forgot my camera so if anyone can find me a picture of that shirt . . . I'll definately make it worth your while!
