So excited to be attending the Crossroads concert for a second time! Is anyone else out there also going? We scored first row for the last one...doubt lightening will strike twice for this show, happy just to be attending. Then found out about Vince with Albert Lee the night before and am now going to that too! Seeing Vince perform three times in one month???? Man, you'd think we were fans or something!

This is getting close! THey've moved up the Friday night show from 9 to 8 pm, giving more time for the artists to jam. It is gonna be really neat to see Vince and ALbert in a little place one night, and then when the sun comes up we will all be packed in tight in a HUGE stadium, doing it all over again with thousands in attendance. I have such good memories of the show three years ago....our youngest son was just 16 then, and he went with us.....quite an awesome experience to share with your kid. We just managed to get a ticket for him this week, so he is going again with us. THe show on Friday is a 21 and older place, so he can't go with us then...too bad for that. Really, really looking forwards to this.........

It is three thirty in the afternoon and I just woke up and crawled out of bed. Gonna drink some water and shower and head out for breakfast. After I get my sorts all sorted again, I will write this all up. For now, as I I sit here half numb and all sore, I can tell you this much: IT WAS AWESOME! Even the poster is awesome. Gonna have Vince sign it someday. Vince with Keb Mo is being written up elwewhere as a highlite of the show. Of course that was a highlight for me, but to hear that from Clapton fans and everyone else is quite a feather in Vince's cap....and considering who else was there...VINCE YOU DID AWESOME!!!!!!! THE highlight of the show for me, and from what I hear it was THE highlight of the show was Ronnie Wood (not scheduled to play, from the Rolling Stones) Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang (a young bluesman) playing "Miss You" by the Stones. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Buddy Guy snapped a guitar string halfway into the song, held up his broke guitar with the string flapping in the breeze, and with Ronnie and Jonny playing the backbeat, sang "I ain't gonne miss this" and then got a new guiter. BUDDY YOU WIN!!!!!!! Anyway, I'll tell you morre later....cause I've have found out....LIGHTENING CAN STRIKE MORE THAN ONCE!!!!!!!!

That's fantastic, Dawn. Can't wait to hear all the details!

That's great Dawn, what song's did Vince play?

LIke I said....I found out lightening can strike more than once....sometimes three, even four times......

Friday we headed into the city to see ALbert Lee and his special guests....Vince Gill, James Burton and Bobby Cochran. All I can say is we got there early enough to be basically on top of the stage. I was situated directly in front of Alberts keyboard and unfortunatly when Albert played that I towered over him. I'd have knelt down so everyone could see IF my knees weren't shot fifty ways to heaven. Mostly he played guitar and I wasn't in the way then. Vince and James Burton came out last and they all did a set together. I taped all but one song and I'll post that on you tube and link it here eventually--- but this is all new technology for me and I am S L O W. Please be patient. The three of them----Albert, Vince and James, did a Train song that they performed at Crossroads the next day. Yes, I got that taped. Having the front row for that....hell, just knowing about it and being able to attend was for me, lightening striking again.

We didn't get home until two am from that, and we had to be on the road by 5:30 am to get the seats we wanted at the Crossroads concert. Talk about power sleeping! It was supposed to storm BAD on Saturday, but that storm rolled through when I was doing my power sleeping......BOOM and a flash of sparks and some huge cracking fireworks noise woke me and made me jump out of bed. Something close had to have been hit by lightening. I got out of bed and surveyed the neighborhood but saw no fire, no house blown to bits, nor a fallen tree. I think it was just God, giving me some humorous foreshadowing......

Fast forward to 10 am when the gates opened for the concert. I blew off my husband and son as I jockeyed for a position in line....don't mess with a woman on a mission! I remember people being in front of me and I remember security making me not run, just like I was back in grade school, and I remember sticking out my arm the farthest so I got a wrist band the fastest and I RAN---I FLEW in my Crocs until I made it front and center....only a few people back from the front row! People crowded all around me as they came in after and I found my yellow rain gear and I held it high above my head and waved it like a flag so that my husband and son could find our spot in the ever growing sea of people. Lightening had struck yet again!

cont'd.....

I found this quote I wrote here way back in 2007 after the Crossroads concert that year:

The only downside was brought up by my front row neighbor/football plow guy, Joe, who informed me that this is it. No concert will ever match this experience again. While we might see each artist again, none together like this, and even if we do see a combo such as Buddy and Eric together again, even at a similar venue, we will not again have front row seats. Hmmph.....we got to ride the pinnacle yesterday.

So after my husband Bossy, and son Jeff all got situated, I turn around and look at the group of guys in front of us---and I know all six of them! They were the same group of guys who plowed our way to the front three years ago! And there....hanging onto the very front railing, dead front and center----is Joe! No Crap! Sure we all remembered each other! I asked Joe---still in his blue baseball cap (surely a new one??), if he remembered saying last time how that concert could never be eclipsed....he held on tight to the front fencing and grinned the biggest grin I have ever seen..and said a bit sheepishly this time, "Well, that was the second best concert ever." I felt like I was in a freaking lightening storm.

Bill Murray...he was the best...again! Sometimes he was Elvis, once he was Jimmy Hendrix, and he blasted us with much needed water and water bottles. Sonny Landreth, who I've seen now several times in Dundee IL at the Clearwater Theater since the last concert in 2007 was a fantatic opener. I taped him too, 'cause now I'm a big Sonny fan. He sure can spank a gee-tar.

Here's how the day went:

11:50A – 12:15P Sonny Landreth

12:20P – 12:55P Robert Randolph joined by Joe Bonamassa, & Pino Daneile

1P – 1:40P Robert Cray with Jimmie Vaughan, & Hubert Sumlin

1:45P – 2P Bert Jansch

2:05P – 2:20P Stefan Grossman

2:25P – 2:50P ZZ Top

3P – 3:40P Doyle Bramhall joined by Gary Clark, Sheryl Crow

3:50P – 4:35P Vince Gill joined by Albert Lee, James Burton, Keb Mo

4:45P – 5P Citizen Cope

5:05P – 5:20P Earl Klugh

5:25P – 5:50P John Mayer

6P – 6:35P Buddy Guy with Jonny Lang

6:45P – 7:35P Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band joined by Warren Haynes, Sheryl Crow, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rojas, & Johnny Winter

7:45P – 8:20P Jeff Beck

8:35P – 10:05P Eric Clapton with Steve Winwood

10:10P – 10:30P BB King with Robert Cray Band

10:30P – 10:50P FINALE

All I can say is watch the DVD when it comes out. There are no words I can write to describe the performances, nor should their be. It was an event to behold. I hear on July 27th in select theaters their will be a showing of the concert. GO to it! Bring water...it was a very hot day. I'll post links as I get the videos up. Vince was awesome! I didn't tape that performance because by that time I was shriviling from dehydration and could no longer point my camera with any accuracy. Plus I did not want to drink water bacuase then I would have to pee and I'd have to swim over the sea of people out and back to our spot. But in the theater, drink water.

And yes----Vince was great. He always is. Quite the crownd pleaser. He said that even if he hadn't been invited, he'd be here. Like Buddy Guy said, "Ain't Gonna Miss This".

In the end I had wiggled my way up to second row, off to the right. There was this young chick who must have taken some amphetamines or something because she would not shut up. How can you be at a concert like that and while Clapton and Steve Winwood command the stage babble so loud you over power their performances? And why would you, other than for drugs? I was getting so mad, so my husband switched places with me and I got stuck behind the six guys again. Did I mention they are all six foot eight? You can see them dead front and center in the DVD and me in a light blue baseball cap peaking out from behind them. Again, it must have been Karma, because it was the same exact guy who blocked my view six years ago----whoa I meant to say THREE years ago. See---it is destiny.....in three years he'll be there again right in front of me.

YOU GO ERIC CLAPTON!

Pete: Vince's group of people did some blues song with Keb Mo....maybe Train, Train? It was the one I have taped from martyr's the nite before. He did Gimme One More Last Chance, Whenever You Come Around and Lay Down Sally. There may have been another song or two they did....it all sort of blends, all those hours.

Keep looking...I'm still posting! I only missed one song on 6/25, the first one they all did together. I should post some more tomorrow too.

Unfortunately we were all getting pretty dehydrated and sick by the time Vince came out for his portion of the Crossroads concert (6/26), I taped what I could , but I only got a little. It was all I could do at that point to just keep standing, so the fact that I got ANY is amazing. And yes, I would do it all over again in that heat and crowded conditions with no water.

We went tonite to see the Crossroads movie. It was GREAT! Vince and the group of players he was with---Albert Lee, Keb Mo, James Burton, Earl Klugh and Vince's band---were shown playing Clapton's "Lay Down Sally". Each of the guys was featured playing super fine guitar solos.

We got there a little bit late....the only place left with two seats together was the front row...so we headed there, I figured that is pretty much where we belonged since we had such fantastic seats for the actual show. I sat down leaving one open seat between myself and the guy already seated there. All of a sudden this guy was all happy to see us....IT WAS JOE! THE SAME GUY WE MET IN THE FRONT ROW 2007 CROSSROADS, AND THE SAME GUY JUST BY COINCIDNECE WE MET UP WITH AGAIN FRONT DEAD AND CENTER FOR THIS CONCERT! I had no idea he lived fairly close to us and would be there front row in the theater! I didn't leave that seat open, instead I moved next to Joe and we talked about what a great time we had. Hope to see "Front Row Joe" at the next Crossroads!

Front Row Joe is easy to spot, in the dark blue t-shirt front dead and center during the concert. I'm short, some where behind him and under his armpit...so I'm not so easy to spot. If you didn't get to the show tonight, the DVD will be out soon!
