In addition to Vince Gill’s summer concert schedule, including headlining Bluegrass Nights at The Ryman Thursday night, the Country Music Hall of Famer has recently logged some substantial time in the recording studio.
Gill is a producer on LeAnn Rimes’ upcoming CD of cover songs by male artists, which is due out this fall. And Gill is working on a new CD of his own, which he thinks is some of his best work. Unfortunately he is concerned the music won’t reach as many people as he would like.
“What’s interesting in a life like this is that it has waves of popularity and not so much popularity and this is one of those waves of (unpopularity on the country music charts),” he said. “You are not being noticed as much, but maybe some of your best work is being done. You feel like it’s not like the days where you had the big run, but it’s really OK. I wish that I was still having hits and all that, but I’m trying to. I do know the records are better and the songs are better, and I take a lot of pride and comfort in that.”
