October 5, 2006--Gibson Guitar, the world’s premiere musical instrument maker, recently supported legendary artist, Vince Gill and his trip to New Orleans by donating guitars from the Gibson-Baldwin Music Education division. Vince traveled to New Orleans to help build a much needed playground at the International School of Louisiana. The help came in partnership with the Academy of Country Music and Home Depot, along with Gibson Guitar.

While there, Vince surprised the children by giving them five GBME Les Paul Junior and Flying V guitars. The guitars are some of the first instruments in their new music classroom. ISL's new music teacher, Luis Murcia said, "This is just wonderful. The kids are so excited. Thank you, Vince and Gibson."

Gill Helps To Rebuild New Orleans

A new playground was built in honor of Vince Gill at the International School Of Louisiana on September 25th.

Gill joined volunteers of the Academy Of Country Music; Home Dept; and the local community to constuct a KaBOOM! playground in only one day on the relocated ISL campus. The playground, which was built to honor Gill, the 2006 recipient the Academy Of Country Music's Humanitarian Award, will provide a safe place to play for almost 400 students currently enrolled at the school.

"It is truly an honor to be able to build this playground in New Orleans, and give the children at the International School of Louisiana a reason to smile and a place to play," said Gill. "Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, it is an obvious need for the community."

Vince was also honored this day with a proclamation from the city of New Orleans that Monday, September 25th was proclaimed the "International Day of Play" in honor of his humanitarian efforts. In true form, Vince gives his proclamation to volunteer and retired New Orleans police officer, Michael, as a thank you.

If you have GAC, watch the new Country Music Across America. They had a much bigger report on the building of the playground than CMT did. Even showed Vince in the classroom singing with the kids. Very nice piece.
