[font=Georgia][size=3] Is it me or do you think that the record company or Vince has the option for making what song is the first single released. I think the main reason our guy doesn't get the radio play he deserves is that the single is not the best song on the alblum. I almost jumped thru the screen when These days didn't win the CMA award in 2006/2007 George Straight please. Vinnie is known as a "ballad" singer but we all know he is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more he has to let the guitar slinger out to play much more like the Paisley and Urbans. I know he is better than those two and I love them too. Lets all get him to play more as my wife put's it snappy tunes. I understand he loves he dark side better but he should get the respect he deserves and I think the country fans are just waiting to hear from him right now. God forbid there is a dearth of talent out there now. Agree or Dis- Agree.

I agree 10,000 Percent!! I can't figure out why MCA always feels the need to release the dramatic meaningful single first instead of Vince's up-tempo rockin' songs. As soon as I heard Threaten Me With Heaven was the 1st single I went...' Oh no '. I know VInce has a great deal of loyalty to MCA and I admire him for that, but if he changed record labels it would not upset me one bit!!! I really really feel it's important that the 1st single be a toe-tapper that radio wants to play and people want to hear... and save the big ballad for later. It is soooooo frustrating!!!

I felt that even with These Days they released the wrong songs. Guitar Slinger probably would have been a better first single, and then Threaten Me With Heaven second. Reba left MCA because they weren't giving her the promotion to get her singles played on radio, but even though she had the first single from her latest album go #1, she hasn't been having much luck since. But then again, unless you're named George Strait (who will be geting airplay when he's 80), anyone over 50 isn't going to be getting much airplay. Radio is set on catering to the under 25 demographic, and most kids under the age of 25 don't want to hear anyone over the age of 35 on the radio. That's why Vince, Reba, Martina, Alan, and several others aren't getting the time of day with radio.

I've heard many say they wish there were sub-genres of country to be able to fit everyone in. There is Rock and then there is soft-rock, hard-rock, punk-rock, etc. Eventually it seems that country should make the same shift. There is traditional country (that doesn't have to mean songs that are old, just songs in a traditional format. There is, for the lack of a better description, Texas country, or swing. There is, of course, the only real sub-genre, bluegrass. There is "pop" country. And more. There are a variety of styles but often only one format for the country radio station, which doesn't have room, or make room, for different styles.
I am not a radio expert, especially since I don't really listen to it much, but I would agree as to the confusion of which singles would be released. I thought Everything and Nothing would have been a great single. Alan Jackson had a song with similar vibe out at the time and I though it would have matched that pretty well.
As long as he is out there I'll keep playing Vince and going to the concerts.

I think part of reason he doesn't get airplay is that he doesn't like making videos and if he did lots of people would hear him on TV - but the kids are ones who spend and spend and vote and vote for people like their own age group (Taylor Swift)....

I know nothing about the music business but what I do know is when a record with 12 songs not written by the singer wins an award(CMA) over a 43 song album written/co-written by the singer and is in my opinion based solely on sales .....just wrong . Yes I am still teed off about that one and I do like G.S. a lot . As far as what is released and who decides I would think that Vince might have some say (I don't know) .Maybe they just saw another way to honor W.O. with releasing TMWH .Just my opinion .
Having said that I am deleriously happy about that Grammy win

When I fist heard Vince's first song from his new cd on the radio which I had to call the station to hear it I thought oh no a slow song.Don't get me wrong I really love this song but I think Vince really needs to showcase just how very well he can play the guitar. Most people don't even know that he is a fantastic player!I was really hopeing for a fast song for his first single. There were so so many great songs on his These Days cd.It's ashamed they didn't get played on the radio!I listen to the radio alot and the only time I get to hear his new song is when I call in.The radio station I listen to does play George Strait all the time and I hear alot of Alan Jackson too.I just don't understand this.Vince Gill is one of the best in the business.I will continue to call the radio station!I hope his next song will be more upbeat.

A lot of times the selection of what songs become singles is a combination of the record company and the artist. Established artists have more say as to what songs they want to release to radio than new artists do. I've seen/heard interviews with artists, and they said that when they were just starting to get airplay, they may have wanted to record or release a certain song, but the record company didn't want that song to be recorded/released, and they had to do what the record company wanted.
