WOW! What an evening of exciting and awesome entertainment.

Vince came on stage at just about 8:00 and was wearing tan slacks, a brown and tan shirt and a leather jacket. After about two or three songs he took the jacket off and rolled up his shirt sleeves. He said he was getting older and went for comfort, lol. Vince was in great humor and had the audience in stitches.

Here is the set list. I may have missed one or two so if anyone there knows any I missed please post them. I had David write them down, I was too busy watching and taking pictures of Vince, lol.

He opened with One More Last Chance
Don't Let Our Love Start Slipping Away
Oklahoma Borderline
When I Call Your Name
Look At Us
Out of My Mind
I Can't Let Go
This New Heartache
Some Things Never Get Old
Don't Pretend With Me
Take This Country Back
I Still Believe In You
The Reason Why
Tell Me One More Time About Jesus
The Faint of Heart
The Key
Go Rest High On That Mountain
All Prayed Up
Cold Gray Light of Dawn
Give Me The Highway
Sweet Augusta Darlin
Molly Brown
The Next Big Thing
Working on a Big Chill
Sweet Thing
Nothing For a Broken Heart
The Rythm of the Pouring Rain
What the Cowgirls Do
Whenever You Come Around
Liza Jane
What You Give Away

Three hours of pure talent and music by Vince and his band.
He had a trombone, trumpet, two saxophones added to the band too. They didn't play all the time but came out at different songs. Bekka and Dawn were the girl background singers. Just an amazing night. They did take about a 20 minute break but time seemed to fly by...

As I mentioned earlier Vince was sooooo funny and it was interesting to listen to him tell about the new songs and how they came to be. His impression of John Anderson is so good, lol. He also said that he had been working out and the guys at the gym were starting to call him Vinny Chesney. (IMO there is no comparing the two, lol)

I also had an added treat. I met some members of the Fan Club. I met Debbie O Fennell, Bruce and Becky and Mandy. So not only a night of wonderful music but the metting of new friends too.

I'm sorry this is so long but I could go on and on and on, lol. I hope others will post things that I have left out. It took us about six hours one way to get to Charlotte and although I am very tired right now, we just go home about an hour ago it was worth every minute riding in the car, lol. For those that have concerts coming up you are in for a wonderful evening. Thanks for listening or reading....smile.gif

Thanks for the review Deb, glad you had a good time. Can you remember anything he had to say about the new songs ?
Becky
Hey Debbie!!! So nice to meet you and David last night!!! Thanks for getting David to write down the setlist...I wrote the setlist down for Mobile, but spent the next 2 concerts just watching, listening and enjoying!!! I didn't even take out my camera last night..left that all to Bruce!!!

Linda, 1 thing I can remember is that he talked about writing 'Cowboy Up' with Pete Wasner...he said they were trying to do some songwriting one day and a football game was playing on the tv....and there was a certain type of commercial that kept playing over and over again and with that in mind, they wrote 'Cowboy Up'...he said it kind of proves that you can write a song about pretty much anything!!!

One thing I'd like to add is that Vince and the band are doing an outrageously wonderful version of 'What The Cowgirls Do' and 'Liza Jane'. Both songs have some really long guitar solos and solos featuring most of the musicians in the band..the songs are really long and absolutely brilliant...as much as I loved the brand new music, I could have listened to the versions of these older songs all night long...truly excellent, brilliant and absolutely out of this world !!!

I'll add more as more comes to mind...after 3 shows in 3 nights, my mind is still humming along...so give me time to get a good night's sleep and maybe I can remember more tomorrow!!!

Sounds so fantastic . I can't wait to read the rest of the reviews. You should have a lot Becky after 3 shows in 3 days. Unbelievable !!!!!!!!!!! Now go to bed and do not leave out one thing when you come back here laugh.gif
Becky
Yes Ma'am, Anna...I promise to do my best!!!

Oh, btw...I looked at all 3 concerts to see if Vince might have someone taping the concerts..and I didn't see any cameras at any of the concerts....oh well...maybe they will record some of the Vegas concerts...

Deb,
Wish I had met you at the concert Saturday night. Your review was great so I won't try to give mine because you have it covered! Vince put on a wonderful show. He sang and played his heart out.

This is the first chance I've had to stop back since the show Saturday night (I tried yesterday, but for some reason I can't get the message board on this website to function with Safari - I have a Mac at home - as the internet browser). I do know that "Cowboy Up" was in the setlist somewhere (perhaps after "Working on a Big Chill"?).

I remember a lot of the funny stories (I have a decent short term memory) used to introduce the songs, but I'm not sure if I should share them as I'm sure he uses pretty much the same patter at each show and sharing them here might spoil the fun for someone else down the line. Shortest one of the night, though, was the intro for "Rhythm of the Pouring Rain" ---- "This is a song about SEX!" No need to say another word, and he didn't (other than the song title).

Some funny unscripted moments....

About midway through the second set some guy up in the mezzanine yells "Eat it up!" and Vince repeats "Speed it Up?!" (having just finished a rather fast number he is confused by what he thought he heard). So the guy yells it again, to which Vince replies - "Oh! Eat it up! I can DO that! I used to go to the Chinese buffet.... man, I love those spareribs. Last time I was there, the owner comes over to me and says (he now uses a Chinese accent) 'You been here FOUR HOUR!' Then Vince admits he's stealing a comedian's routine that he's heard. 'HOW COME YOU NOT EAT VEG-TABLE?! YOU EAT ALL MY SPARERIBS!' Yeah, I can eat it up...." The place was dying with laughter, as were some of his band members.

When he takes off his jacket and rolls up his sleeves - "This is NOT an attempt on my part to be sexy. At my age I'm going for comfort, here."

Refering to his new release, as he goes into each disc segment he'd talk about the "record". "I can't bring myself to refer to them as CD's. I'm old. I mean some of my music actually came out on eight tracks!"

Yes, I agree with all of you. What a great concert! I wish I could have met more of you before the concert, but it was so cold, we just had to squeeze on in as close as we could before they opened the doors. But I've been to several of Vince's concerts in the past & I think this was truly the best of all. He looks absolutely fantastic!
KYVGFAN
Yea Debbie! I know it pained you to take a night away from baby Logan, but I'm sure VG appreciated you being with him that evening. Glad you all got to enjoy a grand concert! Vince just really keeps getting better and better, doesn't he? Kay S.

Great review Deb!

First of all, let me say that I was thrilled to meet Debbie & David, Bruce and Beka(Becky to y'all) and Wendy(dabado) for the first time. I was also honored to see again Mandy, Ms. Sandy, Mandy's Dad and Aunt, Debra, and Rhonda! I really enjoyed seeing and meeting all of you.

What can I say that Deb hasn't already said - let's see - The concert was so, so, so much more than I could ever have imagined. I will venture to say that it's the best concert of Vince's I've ever had the privelege to attend and that's saying a whole heck of a lot. Vince never disappoints me.

I took a good bit of pictures during the show, and when I get them developed, I'll send some to Beka and Bruce to put up on their board. Don't think this board is ready for pics yet. I will also be putting up the link on The Gills Place MB for those of you that belong to the Message Board.

One of Vince's jokes that really tickled me to death was one about the "Chinese Buffet". Vince was talking about how he loved to eat, but had lost some weight and started working out at the Y. He said the last time he was at a Chinese buffet and you know how well Vince does voices, he said the waiter came over and said, "You been here 4 hours - you know eat any vegetables - you eat all my spareribs." Oh my gosh, I am still laughing at that joke.

Vince sang my song, "Tell Me One More Time About Jesus" and told the story behind the title. He said that he and Amy's Preacher that married them Mr. Mack Hannah is now at a church in Georgia and he had told them about witnessing to his BIL for a long time and he just didn't want to hear about God. Vince and Amy met him for lunch one day and he told them that his BIL had called him and wanted him to go fishing. They got in the boat and out in the middle of the lake, his BIL said, "Mack, now tell me one more time about Jesus". Mack was ecstatic and got to share the Gospel with him at HIS asking. Vince said, "Hold on Mack, I need to write that down". Vince said he took out his little book and wrote down the title to the song and then he and Amy wrote it. I thought that was really cool.

Vince sang for about 1 1/2, took about 20 minutes in between and then sang again for about 1 1/2. All in all, it was a long concert, with oldies and new material. He said he didn't want us to feel cheated so he'd sing some old songs. LOL The band was so wonderful. I just loved Beka's voice.

After the concert, I went out by the bus to wait for Vince with some of the others and had a little book (Golf) for him in a bag. Vince came out, signed a few autographs, and said he needed to go, I told him I didn't want an autograph or a picture, I just wanted my hug - He said sure thing and gave me a hug. I then proceeded to go back to the car and realized I still had Vince's gift in my hand. Vince had already gotten on the bus, so I saw John Hobbs who was very sweet and gracious and said he'd be happy to give Vince my gift. Guess what was also in the bag that I forgot. Well, Vince now has my reading glasses. I bet he thought, wow, wasn't that sweet, she gave me glasses to read the book with. LOL

Hey Vince, send me my glasses back - they're not your color!

All in all, I had the best time seeing everybody, and enjoying Vince's music . I was also able to talk with Beka and told her that she had a beautiful voice.

Vince, thanks so much for the wonderful musical experience you gave us that night. It's one I'll never forget.

One more thing, Vince finished the evening with "What You Give Away". He started talking about it before he sang and just said, "Man, I just wish we could all get along and help each other - give to others - the world would be a better place". I thought that was very touching.

Loved the show......there were so many highlights, and the time flew by very quickly. I thought Vince was well received by the audience in Charlotte. During the encore when he was getting ready to sing his final song, people were yelling different requests. He told the crowd that he had to quit because he had a curfew. The requests kept coming, and he said he really did have a curfew and asked everyone if we would pay the fine for his not quitting on time. I'm assuming he had to be out by 11pm. He and the band gave a spectacular performance of "What You Give Away" as the "finale".

Deb
Hey Kay, yes it's hard to leave baby Logan and it would be nice to think that Vince knew I was at the concert, lol. Maybe someday I can take Logan to a VG concert. He already seems to like music.

Debbie, too cute about the glasses in Vince's gift bag.

I tried to get to the buses after the concert to meet him too but I didn't get there in time. He was already on the bus. I even bought a picture for him to sign if I got to meet him. I wanted to tell him that it would be mine and David's 31st anniversary, (which is today). I even sent a note with Mandy saying I hoped he would sing Look At Us for us but I guess he didn't read the notes until after the concert.

Anyway a cute story about David, we were talking about me trying to get to the bus after the concert and I ask him to go with me. He said he would wait in the car. I said well, what if I get to meet Vince and tell him about our 31st anniversary and he ask where you are? David said to tell him he was warming the car up for me, lol. MEN.....smile.gif
Becky
Happy anniversary Deb & David!!! Vince did sing 'Look At Us' in Mobile and Duluth. I don't know for sure, but I don't think he had been singing 'Look At Us' before Mobile. I do know that a man (fan club member) that got to meet Vince in Mobile, requested the song for himself and his wife. So, he sang it in Mobile and again the next night in Duluth. I suppose he cut a few songs from his setlist because of the curfew in Charlotte.

Deb, tell David that he needs to stick with you at the bus next time!!! I'll bet that Vince enjoys meeting guys from time to time too !!! I always drag Bruce along to take pictures...LOL!!! We did see Vince briefly at the buses in Mobile, so we didn't stick around in Duluth or Charlotte...don't think the buses were in an accessible area in Duluth anyway...

Debbie, any word on getting your glasses back???
Deb
Thanks Becky, Vince did sing Look At Us but just not to us, lol. Oh well I love to hear him sing that song anyway.

This was the first concert that we have been too that we could even get near the buses. There was one concert in Ohio where they had policemen on horses around the buses. I was actually surprised that people were being able to be around the buses. First time that we have seen that but it still didn't do me any good, lol. Maybe next time.
Becky
Ok, Deb...I couldn't remember if he sang it in Charlotte or not. I know he dropped a few songs in order to finish up the concert around 11pm. Keep trying on that 'bus thing'...it does pay off sometimes!!!

Nope Beka! That's okay, Vince can keep them. He may need to see one day and can't find his own glasses. LOL
Carolyn
Thanks for sharing your concerts. I loved reading everyones reviews. Debbie - I bet Vince got a kick out of finding your reading glasses.
Becky
Apparently, Vince has a 'grab-bag' of reading glasses...LOL!!! I've seen him wear 2 or 3 different pairs at different times. Reminds me that I need to go get a pair myself..am getting to that point in life where I need some help reading small stuff like maps...LOL!!!

Happy belated anniversary,Deb and David. Warming the car, that is a good thing . laugh.gif

There was no way we could have gotten to the buses here either. The show was so great though we just passed by the fences where the buses were parked and I said oh well I just got to see the best concert of my life.
Deb
Thanks Anna and yes warming the car is a nice thing but what if I had gotten to meet Vince and tell him about our anniversary it would have been nice to have David there with me, lol..... oh well I didn't get to meet Vince but at least I got to go back to a warm car..smile.gif
