For all of the "veteran" Fan Club members - you probably remember my little Emily loving "Mr. Bince" and wanting to marry him. You probably remember that when she was 4, she and her little sister (Amber) at about 18 mos. old met Vince and Amy and the baby was scared to death of Vince when he requested to hold her. She screamed her head off and Amy rescued her by picking her up and telling Vince, "Vince, you scared her". Amber LOVED Amy, but would cry if Vince just looked her way! It was funny!
Well, that baby was too little to remember the concert, and too small to remember meeting Vince, but she was raised on his music for her rest time since the day she was born.
Yesterday, her Mom and older sister had a school trip to attend, and it was just Am-Aw and Amber at home. I had GAC playing kind of low. Amber was busy doing what 3 year-olds do and wasn't paying a bit of attention to the TV. "The Reason Why" music started playing and Amber has NEVER heard that song! She wheeled around and said, "Am-Aw, that's Vince". She only heard the introduction of the music ---- not his voice! It shocked me. I asked her, "are you sure" ---- and then they started playing the vocal part and showed Vince's face. She pointed and said, "see Am-Aw, there's Vince!" WOW, did I train those kids or what!!!! Then she stood up and said, "Am-Aw, dance with me". She wanted me to pick her up. She put her sweet head on my shoulder and hummed throughout the whole song. When it ended, she said, "Am-Aw, I love Vince, would you take me to see him?" SOOOOOOoooooo, since she doesn't remember ever seeing him ------ looks like I'll have to find a venue somewhere next year to take her and her sister again.
I'm so proud that those girls appreciate GOOD music!!!!! We now have 4-generations of Vince fans in my family! If my G-mother was still living, I could brag about 5 generations, since she also begged me to take her to see Vince! She loved him too! She passed away before I could do it.

Now that's raisin' them right, Cathy!!! Good, Am-Aw!!!
Maegan just requested her own boxed set a few days after the release. Not enough that we bought 1 for each car and 1 for the house...no, no, she had to have her own copy. Hey, if it gets her to listen to GOOD music, I'll buy it for her!!! She brought the boxed set to me the other night and said, 'Mom, which cd would be best for listening to before I fall asleep???'...we settled on 'The Groovy Record' because of several of the songs on it...she's already carrying around the liner notes because she says she wants to learn all the words to all the songs!!!

I do hope that you can find a concert to take the grandbabies to next year, Cathy. Have you told them that you'll be going to Vegas to see Vince in December??? Might better keep that a secret, huh??? LOL!!! I know that Maegan is not happy with us right now. She stayed with Mother while we went to Mobile, Duluth and Charlotte and she'll stay with both Grandmothers while we go to Vegas next month. I wish we could have taken her on one trip or the other, but she has school ...I keep reminding her that we took her to the 10/14 Opry, tho..LOL!!!
I really don't mind 'spoiling' Maegan with good music. She continues to really love country music as well as contemporary Christian. So, I think we're doing ok...so far!!!

You're doing great with Maegan, Becky...right now for Taylor it's been mainly kids songs/Disney songs...besides, we're not really with her enough for me to train her in Vince. The only time we really get to see her in for about an hour on Wednesdays, and then we're usually out doing something after picking her up from preschool, or else we're dropped off at home and my mom and Taylor leave to go home.

Val, have you thought about giving Taylor the cd 'The Best of Country Sings The Best of Disney'...I think that's the name of it. Don't think Vince is on that one, but Alison Krause sings 'Baby Mine' on it...I love that cd!!! We bought it years ago for Maegan and she still listens to it alot. Another one that we got for Maegan was a Disney Soundtrack that Vince sings on...was it 'Emperor's New Clothes'??? Gee, I'll have to go find it now...but the songs on that cd are awesome...just thought I would give you some Christmas ideas for Taylor!!! I know I 'stole' that cd from Maegan for a while to listen to it myself!!!

I did get her that Down on the Farm DVD that has Vince, Amy & Randy Travis' voices as the animals...have no clue what happened to it...guess Taylor has it at her house. I do have The Best of Country Sings Best of Disney CD myself...*L* I'll have to look for Emperor's New Clothes...I know Vince narrates that one, but haven't seen it in the stores...probably would have to get it online.

I think it's great some of the children love Vince and Amy's music. I'll never forget that little boy at the fan club party. The way he ran to Vince and just threw himself in his arms. So precious. All my kids love music of some type. I can't imagine life with out it. So keep training those little ears. It's so good for the soul .

Cathy, what a precious story about your grandchildren. Logan will be 2 months old the 17th of this month but I am already calling him "sweetpea". I also purchased him a little plastic guitar for babies for Christmas. I know as time goes on I will get him onto Vince music..lol. I got to babysit him Sat. while the rest of the family went to a WVU football game. He is laughing and starting to coo when you talk to him so I'll be telling him Vince stories soon.
I was showing everyone when they came home from the football game my pictures of Vince at the concert and I told his daddy that maybe Logan could go the next time I go to see Vince.

There is absolutely NOTHING better to calm a cranky baby than a Vince Gill CD!
When I worked at The University of Texas Medical Branch, I went to the nursery one day and the nurses there had Vince's Pocket Full of Gold playing. I was so proud of them!!!! They said it kept the newborns calm and soothed! SMART PEOPLE, huh!!!!!!!!!!

I got to babysit Logan again yesterday, YEAH!!!!! Anyway he was wanting to go to sleep but didn't really want to, lol. I think he was afraid he was going to miss something

I started singing Vince's version of Blue Christmas to him and off he went to dream land. One time I quit singing and he didn't wake up but he kind of made a nosie like keep singing Grandma and I started back up again and he gave a quick grin and kept on sleeping.
I told him that I would tell everyone that he was already loving VG music. I know I should have put him down after he went to sleep but I just want to hold him and watch him sleep and if I had put him down I wouldn't have know he wanted me to sing more Vince, lol.
