I don't know a lot about the media business but my grand daughter is taking media business and she said that she only listens to independently owned radio stations. I had told her about it before but she didn't get it until she started to school .She says it's Corporate owned stations .Says the labels pay the stations to play the hottie's Now I would really like to think that people like Alan Jackson and George Strait and Garth Brooks and many more who have the talent to make it gets played on their own merits but I don't know. If the label pays then isn't that reminiscent of the old Payola trails that Dick Clark and maybe some more DJ'S during that time . I do think I remember that Dick Clark was cleared of those charges. Would that be the same thing as Payola and isn't that still illegal ? Isn't that what it's called ?
So hopefully with the popularity of XM radio and Sirrus growing we might get to here Vince a lot more. Hope so .
I found a couple of articles about it but tried the links and they did work. Anyone interested in researching this subject. I just did a search for Payola in the music industry .There were a lot of articles.
I am not singling out any specific stations just askind and wondering .
