(Show started exactly at 8pm - ended 11:05pm - over three hours with no intermission).

My wife and I were very lucky to have reserved seats in the balcolny - there were only 300 seats and about room for another 1000 people who had to stand in the center stage area...yes - stand for over 3 hours in what was a very hot and loud environment. Don't get me wrong Vince put on a great show BUT I would hope he never plays the Roseland again - there are much nicer venues with chairs etc and air conditioning that seat 1500 to 2000 people. (One lady actually passed out downstairs).

Near the end of the show - the last 4-5 songs were so loud that it hurt our ears and we could barely hear Vince (just way too loud). Roseland is notoreous for being too hot and too loud of a venue - and everyone was packed in like sardines.

Note to Vince's booking staff - next time look into the Arlene Shnitzer Hall instead (classy - 3000 seat venue in Portland) smile.gif

Again - Vince looked and sounded great overall and at 35 songs we surely got our monies worth!

Also as a FYI - I spoke with two nice ladies right behind us. They had both tried twice to buy the "These Days" CD set (each wanted one for them and one for their parents for Christmas gifts) - once at Walmart (and I forget the other store). Each time they were told it was "sold out" that it was "hard to keep stocked" etc....
I tried to convince them to buy from Amazon or Barnes and Noble (online) - they were afraid to do so (never purchased online before and were afraid of "identity theft")....I tried to tell them it was safe, I'd shopped online for 10 years etc and even if their card was compromised they were not liable - but alas I do not think they will ever buy online (no matter how safe it really is) smile.gif
Just another story of demand and no supply....

The set list was much the same here in Mesa,Az. Great music .

I have experienced the same thing about ordering online. I tell them it's safer than leaving your signed copy at a store. Sorry about the to warm venue and the loudness. But you are right ,Charlie, he sure gives you your money's worth. To bad those people had to stand.

We saw Keith Urban and Paul McCartney last year and we stood but did have seating. It was a blast but I sure can understand some not wanting to stand for 3 hours. I am a hairdresser and it kills my feet and legs but a concert sure is different IMO . I wouldn't mind standing for Vince . Good news on the sold out but they could order more smile.gif

Charlie,

I too was at the Portland show. I LOVED IT. This is my 4th time seeing him.

I think that they chose the Roseland for a couple of reasons....Schnitzer was booked with Tim Conway/Harvey Corman , I think he may have been concerned that they couldnt fill that venue if they could have worked it into his schedule.

I was sitting right beneath an airconditioning vent and was FREEZING all night AND I had a sweater on.

I think that they could have sold more tickets as there was still plenty of room on the floor...I went down there several times and enjoyed it a bit better than the reserved seats, however, I am very thankful that I had a seat.

I think that the reason that the lady "passed" out was not because it was hot. I saw here walking a bit later and lets just say that she was not walking a straight line. Bet she had a doozer of a head ache this am.

I took my husband last night even though he was complaining all week long...but he enjoyed himself immensly. I dont think he has ever really listened to him play and he loved the guitar playing and the blue grass.

I wish that he could have played another 3 hours as he has so many old songs that he could have played, but I know why he played the new ones...the tour was for the new album.

Gotta love him. He is just the most amazing musician ever!

Charlie, in the set list that you posted, the comment after "Which Way Will You Go" is that what Vince said about the song ? That the song was about abuse and could have been called 'Amy' ? Or is the comment your opinion/conclusion of the song ?

Glad you had a good time.

Linda - yes my wife and I were a bit confused by his comments. Not sure what he meant. He said the next song was about "a woman's abuse" and he did then say it could be called "Amy". My wife said he also added something like "the song does not entirely fit her" (however I do not recall him saying that). So that said, I did think Vince implied (maybe) her last marriage was a difficult one...I am not sure how to interpit it...it stood out so I just posted what he said without trying to define it (if that makes sense) as I really do not know.

I am sure Amy( And Vince )both went thru bad times that no one will will (or should) ever know about! I think they both worked real hard at holding things togeather but sometimes things that are broke can't be fixed Abuse comes in many forms and why should anyone have to live unhappy? Just my Opinion! hugs mamabear

I was at the Portland show...My observations/comments on other thoughts...

RoseLand Theatre is actually a great concert venue. Vince even alluded to liking the small place. Performers can feed off crowd energies with the two being so close. I definately think Vince and the crowd 'connected' Friday night. Albeit, a venue such as this would not be the best for the older fans or others who have difficulties standing or seeing over others.

Someone in the crowd kept requesting he sing 'Amy' from his PPL days. He laughed off the request a couple times, then later explained he actually was not original vocals on that song. Later, someone yelled for it again and he said "what'd, you just get here?" - Funny.

Portland show was 21/over...alcohol was served. A couple people felt the effects of it and not the heat. Too bad they had to 'drop out' so soon as there was a lot of show to see.

I thought his comment about abuse in a marriage was his first wife yellin at him...but a tongue in cheek comment.

In all...This was the first time I saw Vince perform live as he doesn't come through the NW a lot and the show was A+. He is a hard worker and his efforts paid off to his fans...

Wonderful reviews...thanks Charlie and golfnbuddy!!! I guess Vince and the band are winding down the tour before Thanksgiving...sounds like they are still putting out their best for the crowds!!!

Happy you got to see Vince. Especially on this tour. Lots of new music from the best. Vince is always great but this concert tour has reallly impressed me all over again. Not that I had to be ...........it's only the best concert I have ever seen , bar none .

Strange that it was 21 and over only, even with alcohol being served, because almost every concert I've been to, has had alcohol served and they were 'all ages' shows. We went to see Dierks Bentley a couple weeks ago, and people who wanted to drink had to stand in line to get wristbands. But in FL, when we went to one particular venue, they were serving alcohol like crazy (and without wristbands), and there were children there. I liked the fact that the venue we saw Dierks Bentley at, they made people get wristbands if they wanted to drink. I don't know if it was to prove they were of legal drinking age or if maybe it let them buy only a certain number of drinks, but it was the first time I had ever seen anything like that done at any venue I've been to where alcohol has been served.
Mary Anne
Some cities or states don't allow anyone under 21 to even be in places where alchohol is served without food- I know years ago Seattle had an oridance prohibitting anyone under 21 from going into bars.
countrycrazy
Ok..thanks, Mary Anne. That's not the case here or in FL...these days with most restaurants serving alcohol, it's hard to think that there are still cities/states where children aren't allowed where alcohol is served. Heck, Chili's, Applebee's and a lot of chain restaurants now have bars in them, and children are always seen in them. We went to a restaurant called Cactus Jacks for my mom and sister's birthdays and my neice was with us, and other children came in with their families (including 2 girls around 6 and 8 years old who were dressed like they had just come from some kind of Christmas program).
Becky
Maybe it is just the venue policy ..I should think that if they had a big section of Standing Room Only, that it wouldn't be safe for kids to be down there.
Mary Anne
Val,
I just edited my post, but I meant to say places where alcohol, but no food was served.
Anna Leighton
Some of the venues here you have to wear the wrist bands.I'm not sure if they make them show id's but I think they do . Of course that's generally not a problem because a lot of the under aged people just use fake id's .
