According to the Tennessean, the boxed set is supposed to be certified gold this week. Hope this is right, I hadn't heard it had reached 100,000.
Here it is:
Win the can't-find Vince boxed set
Guess what I've got? Besides roots in serious need of retouching. I've got five copies of Vince Gill's hard-to-find, much-coveted These Days, the four-disc boxed set containing 43 new songs, including his current single, "The Reason Why." While kids are clamoring for the video console PS3 for Christmas, adults are dreaming about this VG4. After he returns home Wednesday, Vince will autograph the boxed sets. The album is expected to be certified gold this week.
To register for your chance to win a copy, and if you are over 18 and a resident of Kentucky or Tennessee, send your name, phone number and the reason why Vince is a Nashville treasure to tennesseancontest@tennessean.com. The deadline is Wednesday at noon.

Wow..that's great news!!! We did buy another copy this weekend for a Christmas present. One of our local Walmarts had 2 copies...for $23.88 each...I still think that is a bargain for all the music!!! I just can tell you all how much I enjoy this new music...I love it more everytime I listen!!!

If it's sold 100,000 that means 400,000(100,000x4). The boxed set must sell only 125,000 sets to total 500,000.

Reggie,Will it be counted that way or just by the sets sold ?

The RIAA certifies for Gold & Platinum albums. They do this based on "units sold". This means discs sold. So for evry boxed set that we buy it counts as four discs sold. So when you see that Vince sold 42,178 boxed sets the first week it counts as 168,712 discs sold. So when he sells 250,000 boxed sets it will be considered Platinum. Look for the numbers to go up tomorrow based on the Leno Show if MCA had enough sets on the shelves.

That is great that it is selling so well. I just bought my third copy in Florida yesterday for a Christmas gift. I will probably buy at least 2 more sets for gifts because I am sure my family and friends will love to receive it.

Well that is just great news Reggie. I bought 6 sets myself. I am on a mission to educate some of these people who aren't that familiar with Vince's fantastic talents.

BTW One of the sets is mine

Same here, Anna...6 sets total and we're sharing some of them too!!! We bought 1 set for my Mother...we went shopping today and I asked her how she liked the new music...it was funny, she said the same thing most of us have said, 'I love it all and I can't decide which cd I like the best'...!!!

Okay, now explain this to me?!? I thought I read that MCA only ordered 200,000 of the sets produced, right? But most places have been out of the sets and have had them back ordered, so now if they say 100,000 is gold...where did the other 120,000 of them go? I think Anna has more than 6 sets!!!!!LOL Kay S.

It hasn't been certified gold yet- when it sells 125,000, which is expected to occur this week, then it will be. As of the date of the article it had sold about 100,000.

So I guess that answers an earlier question we all had about how does RIAA count the CD (as 1cd or 4cds)....125,000 X 4 (4 CDs per set) = 500,000 or "gold"....so that means it just needs to sell 125,000 more to be certified "platinum) or 250,000 sets X 4 = 1,000,000
That's good news! I foresee this set being "multi-platinum" within a year!

I've been saying all along (like a lot of others) this set is going to be Vince's greatest work yet. Not saying his previous work hasn't been great .You all know I am a die hard Vince fan. Anything he does is the best but this set is so diverse and such a unique project ,it's just so far above anyone else's music.................I am totally captivated by the whole set.
