From The Nashville City Paper by Ron Wynn:
There’s nothing slick, artificial or contrived about the music, singing and arrangements on Amy Grant’s Hymns For The Journey (Cracker Barrel/Word). Grant and guests Alison Krauss, Vince Gill and Stuart Duncan sing with simplicity, honesty and conviction on 10-song set whose high points include “Fairest Lord Jesus,” “Rock of Ages,” “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” and “Softly and Tenderly.”
Without having multi-voice choirs or lots of ultra-sophisticated adjustments and production, Grant displays a vocal grace and fire that should resonate with even her most harsh critics. It’s quite frankly the best thing that she’s done in quite a while, and among the more appealing collections of traditional gospel that have been released so far this year. This is another in the recent sets that are presented by Cracker Barrel and is available at all their outlets.
