Full Version: Vince at Billy Walker Service
The Nineteenth Hole > The Nineteenth Hole > Off Topic
Maggie
The memorial service for Opry legend Billie Walker and his wife Bettie was this afternoon. The local news showed a short clip of Vince sitting onstage with his guitar, so, sounds like he sang at the service. Will probably be more details on the 5 or 6 pm news and will let you know if they show more. What a sad loss of two such wonderful, caring people. Bless their souls.

Poor guy....I don't think I know anyone who has attended more funerals than he has.

Thanks for keeping us updated on that maggie....such a sad loss. I am sure it was a very emotional day for Vince as well.

Glad Vince's schedule worked out that he was back in Nashville so he could attend the service.

[b]Figured if there was any way he would attend. I think it's probably a tie between Vince and Marty Stuart about who has attended the most funerals. Either one or both seem to make everybody's funerals.

[b]Don't know if we're allowed to post links, but go over to the WKRN website. They have a video of Vince singing "Go Rest High" at the funeral. Not very long but good to see.

The news at 6 pm showed Vince singing "Go Rest High" and also showed Ricky Skaggs and The Whites singing a gospel song and Marty Stuart and Connie Smith sitting onstage. Looked like a nice service.

Soooo sad... Billy Walker had one of the most pure, smooth voices. We saw him last year at the Superstar Spectacular and he was so wonderful. My prayers go out to the family.

Such a tragedy...

They are together In heaven....

I'm reading reports that the funeral was packed with 2300 people...Ricky Skaggs and the Whites sang 'Farther Along', Vince sang 'Go Rest High' and Connie Smith sang 'How Great Thou Art'...seems like Vince had gone to so many funerals in the past few years...

I have to say that I truly will miss Billy Walker at the Opry...we looked forward to his mellow voice every time we saw him there. He was indeed a very sweet man and we struck up a little conversation at the Opry fan club brunch last year...his wife, Bettie was there that day also...Mr. Walker asked me where I was from and we spent some time talking about B'ham..he evidently knew the area well...and I had to tell him that he had a wonderful last name...(my Mother's maiden name is Walker)...I won't forget how nice he was that day and how sweet he was to pose for a picture with me and to sign my Opry book...no, they just don't make them like Billy Walker anymore...

Charlie Lilly's funeral was to have been at 11am today and Danny Patton's funeral is tomorrow in Indiana...

And let's not forget the Walker's grandson, Joshua Brooks...they say he is still in critical condition...

If anyone is interested, the Opry website has a page set up with the funeral arrangements and request for donations to the Joshua Brooks fund as well as a fund that is being set up for a Charlie Lilly's sons.

This was such a sad thing. I thought Vince would probably be there. With two beautiful voices like Vince and Ricky Skaggs, I'm sure the music was moving and beautiful. God be with their families.

If sadness can occupy our minds for just one moment in time...

I couldn't imagine theirs.....
