With little fanfare, country megastar Vince Gill strode onstage as casually as if he was ambling into a band rehearsal. His laid back attitude set the pace for the warmly receptive crowd of about 6,000 Christmas revelers at he and wife Amy Grant's Yuletide concert at Van Andel Arena Thursday night.
Mellow, soothing, and uplifting were three moods present during the two-hour show, featuring two of music's best-loved singers crooning and strumming some of the finest seasonal music, both old and new.

GRAND RAPIDS -- If Vince Gill were in charge of school funding, arts would be the last thing on the chopping block.
"They could cut algebra if it was up to me," he joked Thursday night at Van Andel Arena before his Christmas concert with wife Amy Grant. "Arts and music are always the first things to go."
The couple appeared at a pre-show reception to benefit the Grand Rapids Public Schools Arts Advocates, a nonprofit group that helps fund arts and music programs of the city's public schools.

As if it’s not an honor enough to be named the Country Music Hall of Fame’s artist-in-residence, Vince Gill will also get to enjoy some major perks of that gig. Like bringing a few of his favorite collaborators onto the stage to join him for a song or two. That’s what other artists have done in the past six years since the program began, inviting guests like Garth Brooks and Alison Krauss to join them. And Gill is kind of the king of collaborating, having won armloads of Grammys for songs done with other artists. So expect the unexpected if you get tickets to Gill’s February shows when they go on sale next week. (And here’s a hint if you want the best seats. Buy a CMHOF membership for just $25, so you can buy tickets a couple days earlier than everyone else.)

I'll Be Home For Christmas is the second yuletide release for the vocalist, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Brian McKnight after 1998's all-original collection Bethlehem. The new CD includes special appearances by classical crossover star Josh Groban, Grammy winners Take 6, and country artist Vince Gill.
McKnight asked Gill to sing on one of his original compositions, titled "Christmas You And Me." He explained: "Every now and then I try to do some sort of fantastical things in my brain, so I said, you know, if I was a trucker and I was on my way home to be with my wife for the first time, my first Christmas together, what song would that be? And that's where that song came from. And to make it authentic I called my friend Vince Gill and said, 'Vince, you gotta get on this song with me (laughs).'That's pretty much what it was, I was trying to figure out what story hadn't been heard yet, at least not that I had heard."

George Jones was among the recipients Sunday of the Kennedy Center Honors, one of the highest accolades given in American entertainers.
Among those who were slated to salute Jones, according to The Washington Examiner, were Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, Garth Brooks and Shelby Lynne.
Meanwhile, some of country's biggest stars lined up to pay homage to the Possum in The Washington Post. Among George's admirers:
Vince Gill: "What's beautiful about George's singing is, if you get the opportunity to speak to him, you'll hear in the way that he speaks that it's the same kind of cadence, same kind of rhythm of the way he sings. That's what makes him so gifted. It's unaffected. It's very, very natural. I really study that in people that are great singers. If you don't talk like you sing, then you're not as honest as maybe you should be." more!
