Fans once again hit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to party with the one and only Vince Gill! The man and his guitar greeted fans for an intimate acoustic show in the Hall of Fame’s Ford Theatre. Vince got a chance to tell stories and answer questions for fans from across North America. MOBILE, Alabama — The most exclusive concert of the Memorial Day weekend opened with a few words from Bill Bru, executive director of Mobile’s Waterfront Rescue Mission.
“We’ve been telling you for a week that we were going to have a special guest, and we will now announce who that is,” Bru told the audience packed into the downtown mission’s chapel late Saturday morning. “It’s Vince Gill.”
A murmur rippled through the crowd, followed by applause. Most of those present were among the homeless clientele served by the mission; others were mission supporters and their families. All seemed to appreciate the chance to hear from a country star with nearly 20 Grammys to his credit.

Vince Gill raised country music’s banner high at the Revlon Concert for the Rainforest Tuesday, April 3, at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium in New York.
In a program titled “Songs of the Silver Screen,” Gill performed his own distinctive renditions of Don Gibson’s “I Can’t Stop Loving You” and Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman” and joined actress/singer Rita Wilson for a duet journey through the Everly Brothers’ “All I Have to Do Is Dream.” (Gill also sings on “Faithless Love” a track on Wilson’s album, AM/FM, due out May 8.)
In addition to Gill and Wilson, the high-voltage concert featured performances by Sting, Elton John, James Taylor, Meryl Streep, Rosanne Cash, Bruno Mars, Jennifer Hudson, Esperanza Spalding and Bryn Terfel. Former president Bill Clinton appeared as a special guest.
The entire cast encored with the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” That lyrical admonition did not apply to sold-out crowd, of course, which got exactly what it wanted.
Gill is currently touring in support of his album Guitar Slinger.

“It feels like losing my musical father. Because of my dad trying to learn to play the banjo like Earl, I was exposed to the sound. I don’t know if music would have spoken to me if it wasn’t for the sound of Earl’s banjo.” Vince Gill
