Vince Gill has a shelf-full of Grammy gold for his solo work, as well as for his collaborations with fellow artists, and he may be adding to that shelf in a few weeks for his contributions to country swing band the Time Jumpers, a group he says has him feeling like a kid again.
The Time Jumpers are up for Best Country Album for their self-titled CD, and also for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their song, “On the Outskirts of Town,” which features lead vocals by Vince. The Country Music Hall of Famer says it’s important to him to live up to that title, and he finds his work with his new band definitely fits the bill.

‘THE CHOICE’ ALL-STAR SINGLE HELPS DELIVER 30,000 PAIRS OF SHOES WORLDWIDE
by Stephen L. Betts - The Boot
Through the efforts of 19 of country music’s biggest stars, including Vince Gill, Keith Urban, Reba McEntire and Alan Jackson, more than 30,000 people around the world, many of them children, have received a pair of shoes, thanks to the recently-released single “The Choice,” which featured those artists and more on the tune, proceeds from which benefit the nonprofit organization Soles4Souls.
“I always took for granted the significance of owning a pair of shoes, but I never will again,” says multi-platinum-selling singer Billy Gilman, who co-wrote the song and spearheaded the effort to bring all of the artists together.

VINCE GILL, ‘BREAD AND WATER’ — STORY BEHIND THE LYRICS
Vince Gill’s latest album, ‘Guitar Slinger,’ is an emotional rollercoaster ride, mixing fun uptempos with tearjerking ballads, along with a few songs that tap into his darker side. All of the project’s tracks, however, have one main thing in common: they’re inspired by various people who have touched the country superstar’s life in one way or another.
‘Bread and Water’ is a poignant track about a seemingly homeless man who wanders into a mission looking for food but finding a whole lot more. The Country Music Hall of Famer sat down with The Boot to tell us how his brother Bob, who passed away in 1993, inspired the song.

VINCE GILL CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY AS OPRY MEMBER
by Deborah Evans-Price – The Boot
Surrounded by family and friends, Vince Gill celebrated a special milestone on Saturday night, his 20th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
“I spent so many years struggling and never knowing if any of this would ever happen for me,” Vince told The Boot backstage before the show. “When a couple hits finally turned up in 1990 and allowed me the opportunity to get invited out here, it meant the world to me. If you ever strum a guitar, play three chords and sing a hillbilly song, this is the mecca. This is the place you dream of getting to come and it doesn’t get any better.” Sharing the night with Vince were his daughter, Jenny, his wife, Amy Grant, and a cast of Opry favorites including Little Jimmy Dickens, The Whites, Bill Anderson, Jean Shepard, The Time Jumpers, Martina McBride and Bobby Osborne and the Rocky Top X-Press.
“He’s been a great, great ambassador for our business,” John Anderson told The Boot backstage. “If anybody has done the Grand Old Opry good in the last 20 years, it’s been Vince Gill. Of course, you can’t say enough about Tater and Porter and those guys, but Vince is one of the guys who’ll carry the torch in an honorable and right way. He’s a great writer, a great singer and a great player and a very hard worker. He’s a very good man. I’m flattered to be here this evening. It’s a pleasure to be here in honor of Brother Vince. I wish him 20 more great years. If anybody’s got ‘em coming, he does.”

VINCE GILL LIKES LIVING ON THE ‘BLUE SIDE’
Vince Gill has carved an historic career out of recording emotionally-charged songs like ‘Go Rest High on That Mountain’ and ‘Never Knew Lonely.’ But while other stars might lean toward more positive, up-tempo tunes, the 54-year-old admits he actually prefers the opposite.
“I like the blue side,” the Oklahoma native says (quote via GAC). “I’ve always liked the sad side of music … the sadder the better. I grew up and played a lot of bluegrass music, and the songs were somewhat morbid in a sense. Somebody’s going to die or something bad is going to happen. There was a great songwriter, Townes Van Zandt. He had my favorite quote of all time. He says ‘there’s really only two kinds of music: there’s the blues and Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.’”
